Under "The Blame is on You"
Mrs B:
"Fear is also innate and archaic in a civil society, but it is a common tool used by the powerful to control the masses".
Old Bob:
YES. This is what I've been saying since I got on topix

Mrs B on Sandy Hook:
"This brings me to another point, religion. Mike Huckabee wants to blame the lack of prayer for this problem.(You’ve got to be kidding me, right?) How does mindless rote prayer keep a mad man from killing those children?"

Old Bob:
Will we ever escape the current Dark Ages of believing in some Being in the sky who cares about us, and answers our prayers? If you prayers are not answered the way you wanted, you didn't have enough faith, or you didn't donate enough to TBN. I don't claim that there is no force "out there". But as far as I can consciously tell, we are all that we have. It is up to US, not some god to intercede for us. If the power of some god or Creator does exist, it is in between our ears. Luke 17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Mrs B:
"Most religions and Gods practice and preach fear. I respect your way of life to have faith in your prayers and your God. But I don’t want to live in that same system of fear and blind servitude...But please, let your personal belief stay personal. It doesn’t belong in our schools or government. It belongs in open discussion in forums like this and in philosophic round tables with those of open minds".
"There is no other book in the entire world that is more believed without even being read than the Bible. If more people actually read the Bible with an open mind, there would be more people rejecting it as “infallible holy text”.

Old Bob:
Exodus 20:13 "Thou shalt not kill." 1 Samuel 15:2 "Thus says the Lord of hosts... 15:3 "Now go out and smite the Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have; do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass". Who is the "Lord of hosts"? The same God who said do not kill? Or is it a different god?

Mrs B:
"Christmas is starting now in October, where it seems to be actually consuming other holidays. You can’t walk into any store in town without it looking like Kris Kringle’s balls have exploded in red and green all over the walls".

Old Bob:
Jeremiah 10:2-6 "Thus says the Lord: "Learn not the ways of the nations,....for the customs of the peoples are false.
A tree from the forest is cut down, and worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman. Men deck it
with silver and gold;....they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good.
Matt 15:8-9 (Quoting Isaiah 29:13) "This people honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain to they worship me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men".

Isaiah 43:11 I am the Lord, and besides me there is no savior.

Gospel of John 14:5-6 (Thomas talking to Jesus) Lord, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way? Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but by me."

Common languages of Ahmedabad, India are Gujarati, Hindi and English. I’m not sure what you wrote is from any of those languages. I’ve never been to Ahmedabad (it is too hot for me) but it looks like a beautiful and big city from what I read. If this message was for me on a public forum commonly used in the US, I would ask that you use English. Please, do not feel bad if you cannot speak it very well, lots of locals have the same problem.

"One of the tragedies of modern times is that people have come to believe that something said by someone in the past, perhaps for illustrative or provocation purposes, actually represents that person's beliefs at the time."

Idries Shah (also known as Idris) Shah was born in India in 1924. He founded the Institute for Cultural Research, a London-based educational charity devoted to the study of human behavior and culture. In his writings, Shah presented Sufism as a universal form of wisdom. He emphasized that Sufism was not static but always adapted itself to the current time, place and people. He framed his teaching in Western psychological terms. His works has played a significant part in presenting Sufism as a secular, individualistic form of spiritual wisdom.

I quoted Idries Shah because the person I replied to had their location in India.

“What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy?”
