The article clearly says "a Moriarty grocery store," and it identifies the store as being Alco. It does not say "the Moriarty grocery store."

Actually the article says Alcon, not Alco. But I'm sure the Moriarty residents can figure that one out.

Nice to see that reporting semantics is the major issue here and not a nutjob walking around dropping clerks.

7 bucks an hour is not worth a new hole in your body.

My prayers to the family.

And to make matters worse you--whoever wrote this "article"--call Alco a grocery store. Why don't you try checking with the facts before posting stories? Don't we, your readership, deserve better? You've only written like fifty words and their laden with glaring mistakes/inconsistencies.

I was in the store when this took place. It was the ALCO store, which while it does carry some grocery items, is more a variety/dept. store. The woman also appeared to have a wound to the mid-section. Besides shooting her he was beating on her with his gun.

My daughter-in-law just came in and said that there were a bunch of police cars and a news crew next to Mountian View School on Rte 66, about 5 miles west of Moriarty.

Too bad the husband can't be taken to a shooting range and used as a target. One less LOSER in the world would be a good thing.

Who cares if it's a grocery store or an Alco store, the point is a woman got shot. Pain & simple, I just hope the man gets caught and that the woman will be okay. Geez. And as for the 7 bucks, I'm sure in that little town just like anywhere else to have a job period is a lucky thing in itself. Anyone can get shot anywhere at anytime.

"Nice to see that reporting semantics is the major issue here and not a nutjob walking around dropping clerks."

It's the journalist's responsibility to write about the news expertly and competently. Had he/she actually done any looking into Alco (which would have taken about three minutes) they'd have known that it's not a grocery store, it's a department store. There is a grocery store nearby; this (understanably) confused some readers. "Was it really that grocery store? The writer was wrong about its name and what type of a store it is, so maybe it isn't Alco." I can see their reasoning. When the news is being reported so incompetently that it causes confusion to its readership, I think they have the right to complain. Or else it shouldn't be called "the news." Maybe the writer has cart blanche to add fiction to reality though like those Hollywood types. I have no idea.

And yeah. It is a terrible thing that happened. No doubt about that. But the people deserve to know the whole truth, or whatever can easily garnered by said reporter. "Clerk Shot in Moriarty" is informative, but anyone could tell you that. The journalist's job is the five W's: Who, what, where when and why? And clearly they weren't implemented here.

Yea, but more importantly it happened at the ALCO store, and the ALCO carry some grocery items along with a couple of other things, so really it kind of like a variety/dept store.

Goes to show that restraining orders majority of times don't work in our State. 10 to 1 says he broke the restraining order a few times. Police were called and he was giving a slap on the wrist instead of jailtime he should have recieved.

Green Chile Stew
Serves 8
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 1/2 pounds beef sirloin or pork butt, cut in 1-inch cubes
1 1/2 cups diced onion
1 tablespoon minced garlic
6 cups chicken or beef broth
1 pound red or white potatoes, cut in 1/2 to 3/4-inch cubes
2 to 3 teaspoons salt, to taste
3 cups roasted, peeled, chopped green chile or to taste
3 tablespoons diced red bell pepper
2 tablespoons chopped cilantro, to taste
Heat the oil in a 6-quart pot over high heat and brown the meat in
batches. Set aside. In the same oil, saute the onions until golden.
Add the garlic and saute 1 minute. Return the meat to the pan along
with any juices that may have accumulated. Add the broth, potatoes,
salt and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for one hour, un-
til the potatoes are tender. Add the green chile and the red bell
pepper, and cook 15 to 20 minutes more. Add the cilantro, stir and serve.

Side Bar: At the school we use locally grown green chile when making
the stew. It is roasted over a fire or gas flame, peeled and chopped.
When the chile is not in season, we use roasted, peeled, chopped, frozen
green chile. You could also use freeze-dried green chile in place of the fresh.
A combination of mild and hot chiles produce a more balanced flavor.

But Don’t go to ALCO to get your supplies for the stew, because ALCO is not a grocery store. You might find some nice loafers or a hat, but they don’t carry much food stuff.

Does it matter whether or not ALCO is a grocery store, dept. store, or convenience store? The most important part of reporting is whether the reporter spelled everyone's names correctly
