Who agrees that the state government should allow a certain amount of teachers in the schools to be specially trained and certified in hand weaponry and be allowed to carry concealed weapon?

And local police departments could train them on basic tactics. And the when in secret. Nobody knew who they were but the principle and asst. it's a logical system why can't we do this Virginia?

Maybe tasers...guns are too big of a liability in unprofessional hands

We already have guns in our schools in Virginia. Besides, some of the students are ignorant thugs who stand a chance of being shot by the teacher who has had enough of their ignorance and abuse. OR, when the teacher happens to walk to the back of the room what is to stop the thugs from taking the guns from the teachers and using them on the other students? How about making people pass an i.q. test before they can buy a gun?

Once again we must hear the incredibly absurd "People with a gun will shoot anyone they get mad at" anti-gun rant. What would make you think that teachers would just snap and start shooting students? If they are capable of that they don't need permission to bring a gun they will just bring one anyway. After all, they are going to commit a major felony by shooting a student do they really care if they are violating one more law by carrying a gun? As far as a student taking a gun from a teacher if the gun is concealed and the students don't know which teachers have guns what are they going to do attack and disable every teacher they see until the find one with a gun? The absurdity of such reasoning is immeasurable. If you check actual statistics you will see that states with fewer gun control laws have fewer gun related crimes. States with more gun control laws have more gun related crimes. The cities with the strictest gun control are also the cities with the highest rate of gun related crimes. Gun control has failed it is time to try something different. Gun ownership is at an all time high in the US. Every state except Illinois has concealed carry laws and there are hundreds of thousands of people with concealed permits in the US. With the abundance of firearms and concealed permits gun crime has been decreasing for years now. Its time to move on and eliminate gun free zones which are more accurately described as helpless victim zones, criminal safe zones, no risk crime zones etc. If a criminal is intent on committing mass murder he doesn't care about your gun control laws. He is a criminal breaking the law is what he does. The argument that teachers with guns will make it worse is ludicrous at best. The least a teacher with a gun will do is draw the killers attention from the children and even if the teacher misses every shot the diversion may save one who he would have killed had he not been distracted. It is impossible to remove guns from the US regardless of what has been done in other countries. The countries that claim gun control has worked also don't have the Mexican border to their south. We haven't been able to stop the importation of large quantities of drugs and illegal immigrants why would anyone think we could stop the importation of illegal weapons? If we take guns from law abiding citizens the flow of illegal weapons form Mexico will go to one place. The criminals. How much worse do you think the violence will be when the criminals are well armed that they know everyone else isn't?

Arming teachers? Hell no. Worst thing that could be done.

An officer maybe, but never a teacher. They are trained to educate. To ask more than that is crazy. The world is crazy enough. I am sure resources can be found for an officer at each school.

No not an I.q. Test. That's to easy. There are smart killers. And the gun would be hidden and locked in a desk drawer safe

Ya see. Say the school board picks certain teachers and does strict background checks on and they put them through a little bit of tactical movements and pistol handling and shooting. Keep it in a locked safe in there desk drawer

And how exactly is that the worst thing that could be done? I would think the worst thing that could be done is to leave 20 small children and 6 adults totally unprotected so that a 20 year old a**hole can come into the school totally unopposed and kill them. The simple solution is to take volunteers from among the staff in the school. All localities law enforcement have surplus guns when they upgrade. Instead of selling the guns allow the volunteer school staff to be trained by law enforcement firearms instructors and issue them a law enforcement surplus handgun to keep at the school. Have them qualify with their firearm yearly just like law enforcement. Then you have multiple trained and armed personnel in the school to protect those kids if the need arises. Think about this. The president is surrounded by armed secret service agents who protect him from harm. The secretary of state has armed security wherever she goes. Even former presidents have armed security with them. Our governor has armed security provided by the state police when he travels. Celebrities have armed security. Why is it that these people have armed security and we leave our greatest and most important resource and the future of our country our children in a building where state and federal law requires them to be unprotected. Makes no sense to me!

If one reached had a gun in any of these school shootings the outcome might have been different. I think all teacher should be permitted to carry a gun. Granted the are trained to handle it and are psychology evaluated. I have handled guns all my life and was taught what the business end of them ment. A responsible person and or gun owner would be very unlikely to ever endanger the life of another person. Much less a teacher harming their students. I know accidents can happen with guns, but proper training helps to reduce that risk. So let's give the teachers guns to protect our children, or future and an American way of life.

teachers are there to teach, the law is there to serve and protect, its not complicated put an officer in the schools to do there jobs. besides would you really feel safe with some of the people around this area with guns so close to our children???

I just think we should change the "GUN FREE ZONES" and allow concealed carry, then if a teacher or worker that carried anyway could take it where only outlaws take their guns.Dont try to train someone who would rather teach. Some teachers hunt and shoot in shooting sports,so they are somewhat trained.only S E R T teams are really trained to shoot with FRIENDLYS around during training, most only shoot static targets."in most instances"So just training someone to shoot a standing target with no movement or non-hostiles could be a large liability. We as in VA.do give out CCW permits to people that would be dangerous in a hostage situtation,I have seen some shoot.Training should be done on a regular basis. It would be better if no one knew who was armed, because the bad guy would target the Officer first or teacher.

Think about it... just how many cops would you need to guard a school
Sure the schools around here are small, but schools in bigger cities might take as many as 10 cop on patrols and stand guard. With all the corruption in our local police forces. Yes, I'd feel safer if well trained teachers were armed, before some of the police.

Honestly, I don't care what they do in schools regarding arming personnel, but I can't wait for an assault rifle ban to send the hicks here in an illiterate rage because they think they need an AK47. Sounds so amusing to me.

I am a United States marine. If any man on this earth thinks he can take my assault rifles (ak47, ar15, etc.) or any of my guns away, then he better think twice. I haven't put my life on the line for my country to have someone take away my second amendment rights away. And I'm not afraid to tell my boss (Obama) to his face.

No one needs an assualt rifle unless they are military or officer of the law. Most who purchase these are up to no good or a gun collecter. But if you got them keep them away from mental patients. But mental illnesses can strike the most sane at any time. I know some people where family has taken the guns from the home to protect the person and their families.
