I really feel sorry for the Sheffield family. Sheffield is a very good friend of mine and my family has known him and his family for a long long time. Dwayne Sheffield is NOT capable of doing such a crime. He is a very caring and considerate person. He would always take care of his men (fellow police officers) and back them up till the end. But those so called fellow police officers decided to blame Sheffield and they started telling lies and making deals with the big guys just to save their sweet little asses and so they would have a less sentence. Sheffield definately got the raw end of the stick on this one. I hope that all these people that told all the lies and made all the "deals" can live with themselves because they sent an innocent man to jail for 28 months-- I am very anxious to see what the Doss boy gets- because from what I hear he was the culprit of the whole situation and then did not have the balls to do the time for the crime and he decided to lie his way out!!!!
That is very sad. Sheffield has a good family and 2 precious little girls that need their Daddy.
May God be with them!!! And as far as the victim:
What victim? She did not seem to victomized in the courtroom that day- she sat there and laughed and listened to music with her IPOD in her ears, as if she were at a party.. Come on people- open your eyes and see what a bunch of lies have done to an innocent man??? It is a dam shame.

If I was innocent I would not plead guilty for any reason. Explain how Sheffield's DNA was found on the girls clothing. Does he just walk around leaking semen? He was so innocent that he some how leaked on the inside of her clothing. How odd. Do you have any daughters?? If Sheffield is so innocent why don't you let him do to your daughter what he did to that poor girl.

As for how the victim acted, no electronics are allowed in the court room and to say otherwise is stupid. Anyone who has visited that courthouse knows you can't even take a purse in, much less an ipod. If the girl would have been teary eyed and somber you would have said it was just an act, so how should she have acted?

Sheffield is a bad guy. His little girls aren't bad. They're innocent victims in this as well. But they are victims of their father's misdeeds, not someone else's lies.

Exactly what does DNA prove? It could mean there was sex involved or it could mean there was a hand job done, which would involve the "victim" to do so. It does not necessarily mean rape!!

You don't have a problem with that? The DNA was on the INSIDE of clothing (pants and underwear). When a person of authority in uniform "pressures" a minor to do anything sexual it is a horrendous crime.

You need to make clear which person you are talking about, Sheffield or Doss. Because Sheffield's DNA was NOT in the underwear!!!

When a grown man, almost 40, has sex of any type with a child it is called rape!!!!!

Not when there was consent, which there was. A 17 year old can legally consent to sex, according to the Virginia state law.

He is 37 years old, she is dating a 36 year old now and has been for months. I suppose a year younger makes a lot of difference?!

All this bickering back and forth is insane. The man was convicted on the evidence, not just testimony of a sexual encounter. Whether the girl was ok with it at the time or not, doesn't make it alright. The man was the Chief of Police, at a Police sponsered event, where other minors were present...on top of that he is a married man with two little girls...wonder if he even gave that a second thot. Stop arguing over the past and just pray for his wife and kids they are the innocent ones in all of this.

I get it--the whole counties of Smyth and Washington are after poor Sheffield. Dang, what makes the young girl lie about being raped? What makes an undercover officer arrest that poor, innocent man for drugs--and not only him, but his wife, too. You're right--everyone should feel really sorry for those two little girls--child endangerment was the one charge for both parents I do believe. Don't believe me? Go to the Va Court System website for Smyth and Washington County Circuit Court. Get real!

You people make me sick to my stomach. I have been sitting here reading ALL this crap and it is crazy. By the way (this is addressed to ("Oh Really")-- you are running your mouth too much!!
I was in that courtroom as a bystander and I definately know that this so called victim had her ipod in her ear and was aggravating Sheffield's wife by singing and acting stupid. The victim's mother made her put it away after she was told how stupid she looked!!! Now-- say that you know what you are talking about. I think that your mouth is overloading your brain. As far as the DNA goes- Doss's DNA was found on the inside of her pants--- NOT Sheffield's!!! You are the sick person- I cannot see why you would take up for a girl that knew what she wanted and then she used her sweet little age to cry about it when her parents found out just exactly what type of girl that they really have, and YES this girl is shacked up with a 36 year old man, and the Judge made it clear to the jury that it ISNOT against the law for a 16 or 17 year old girl to have sex if she is consenting and from what I hear she consents a lot!!!

No electrical device is allowed in any courtroom in Virginia. Both mens DNA was found inside the girls clothing. You are welcome to request a copy of the indictment of these men that includes that information.

What is the name of the 36 year old she is supposedly dating?

Remember it is a crime to spread false and demeaning information about another person.(Libel)

Well, Well, you must be a very important person if you have a copy of the indictment of Sheffield and Doss, because that "should be" very confidential material. You better be careful of what you are offering upon request. "You" should remember it is a crime to spread false and demeaning information about other people. You seem to be very well informed on this situation- makes a person wonder if you had a hand in all the demeaning comments made on Sheffield and Doss to the public and the media???

"Oh Really" you appear to be a pretty intelligent person by your writings. I can tell you are young though because you haven't learned the cardinal rule of us old timers. That is never ever argue with stupidity. It has been proven in court that the man is guilty. His supporters won't let that go. They continue to trash everybody involved on the "other" side. Don't continue arguing with stupid people. It won't get you anywhere. The truth will come out again when the people are back in court for drug charges. You will again hear the same old thing about how everybody ganged up against this one person and not only him this time they went after his wife too. Don't bend to their level.

That is just another thing that the "victim" is not willing to be let known because of the way it would "look" on her. He is a 36 year old, who happens to be a smyth county deputy. This has come directly from the man himself and has been witnessed by other people!! By now though, he proabaly isn't seeing her anymore due to the "circumstances."

If we lived in a so called "perfect world" these things would not happen. But, guess what, we don't. Laws are put into place for reasons. One of the laws is that it is legal for a 16 or 17 year old to legally consent to sex. This may not be what people want to hear but it is the law. It was put into place for a reason. 16 and 17 year olds ARE having sex and there is nothing anyone can do about it. I do agree it was not the best decision amoung all the parties involved including the men and the girl, but she did consent. Also the Alford Plea was put into law for a reason. People who feel they are not guilty but due to the circumstances the jurors are not open minded and are not willing to look at the facts alone have no other choice. Sheffield wanted a trial!!! I am just saying all involved needs to admit what happened!

Was Sheffield denied his right to a fair trial? I thought he made a plea by choice.

I just happened to be in the very same courtroom, in fact I was in the lobby where one of the police officers told the girl that NO electronic devices where allowed in the courtroom. I also witnessed the girls father take his time to take her IPOD back outside, where it stayed until later on that day. I also know that she did have her IPOD later on but never once was it in the courtroom, it stayed in the room where she was held. I also know that she did not sing one note, though I do believe her sister sang a few to try to cut some of the girls tension. As for aggrivating Sheffield's wife, I believe the girl made a simple statement and his wife heard what she wanted to hear. Get the facts right before you tell the world what you think will help your cause...

Yes, he did make a plea by choice. He was given, at the most, 20 minutes to decide something that would effect the rest of his life. Once the jurors had been polled,it was determined they were not willing to go by what the law states. A 17 year old can consent to sex and go strictly on the facts of the case not hearsay. Therefore he would not have been able to have a fair trail.
