Bell's toll rings up review of city salaries

Full story: Chico Enterprise-Record

With residents of the Southern California city of Bell still grappling with the recent disclosure of the outrageous salaries raked in by their public officials, Chico City Manager Dave Burkland said the city of Chico may consider stepping up its role in increasing the availability of city salary information.

oh, look, they are using the Bell salaries to try to make their salaries look reasonable.

The average Chico family lives on less than $40,000 folks. How does a city manager rate $190,000 a year? And then there's his fully paid benefits package.

These embezzlers are breaking our city. You and I will be asked to pay more taxes to support these salaries within the next two months after the next election. Choose wisely in November people. If Gruendl and Flynn are re-elected, we'll get a bond or a sales tax increase to cover these insane salaries.

I'm disgusted with these people. They make me want to puke. I can't even look the city clerk in the face anymore, I'm afraid she'll see what I'm thinking, I've lost all my respect for every body down there.

Automatic raises and budgets increases. Most goverment managers gets a raise based on the size of the budget they manage. So what do they do spend, spend, and spend. Thus a bigger budget and a raise and done by the person in charge of the budget in most cases. This exactly why we have financial problems in most cities and the federal government. We need to start contracting out most of these services. This will save money, increase jobs, and reduce the tax burden. This is a cancer that needs to be stopped. Government officals forget they have a fiduciary resposibility to the communities they serve.

I think we should not respond to the THESAULSTER person. He or she does not make any sense.

Supposedly the article listed "salaries." The city employees listed are correct but the fire and police are not. The list includes OT pay which is not a salary. OT worked should be compensated. The top paid fireman works outside fires and because of his expertise is usually a crew chief. What is not listed is the amount the City of Chico is reimbursed for the hours he works when on those other fires. What I'm trying to say is that the list does not give a clear picture. Once again they are trying to confuse.
