I am glad the city is giving the firefighters a raise and cutting the pay and benefits of these police. They seem to work better now.

Congratulations to law enforcement for being so diligent in preventing further incidents of illegal activities. Good to know you there protecting us. Thank you.

I agree with del mar. I don't care what police and fire make, as long as it is reasonable. But they should be the same. Fire should not take a raise at the same time the police take a pay cut. As far as I'm concerned, they should make the same.

It is worse than you think. Police have taken no raises for several years and are now taking the equivalent of a 5% cut and paying more medical. Over the same period Fire received a 25% raise. Now the city managers are praising the fireman for helping out while blaming the police for not taking more cuts. I guess that is what happens when you have to arrest one of council members that vote on your salary. So much for treating everyone equally.

Firemen should get payed more than cops. They work harder and usualy are dealing with far more dangerous situations because they have too. They can't back off and let a car or a house burn, but the cops can back off a chase or in this case blow a situation way out of proportion until the guy just gives up on his own.
We could cut the number of cops in half and be just as safe, but we need fire fighters badly and as many as we can get.
Just tell me how often do you see a cop just driving around and never even getting out of his car compared to seeing a firefighter. When you see them they are on the way to some dangerous stuff and actually saving many many lives.

I'm actually a fire fighter and I can tell you I would hate to place myself in the daily danger that those in LE do. Yes, the things we fire fighters do are high risk (like fire) but in reality, around here, are low frequency. Law enforcement are constantly making public contact (such as vehicle stops) where there is the potential for great danger. Do we like the things we do in our public safety jobs? Sure we do...the adrenaline rush is great, but each job has its dangers at different levels and frequencies.

No More Beans has obviously been in personal contact with law enforcement and as a result has an itch that can't be scratched. Too bad, he may need them badly some day.

I'm glad they are giving the firefighters a raise as well. My apartment would not be here if they didn't!
