"CUSD Superintendent Kelly Staley said Inspire would need to keep its pay and benefit schedule in line with the district to avoid an imbalance."

Doesn't that defeat the point of:

"this arrangement will allow Inspire to continue to use Chico Unified Teachers Association, the faculty union, as the teachers' bargaining union, or not, as seems best."

If they pay the same and are funded through CUSD like the rest of non-charter schools what happens when the State takes over CUSD? Are they reading a different newspaper? Didn't the E-R say the state take over was going to be around the same time as Inspire plans to start up?

Inspire just doesn't want to deal with the district's personnel department which doesn't have a good reputation. The assistant superintendent who runs personnel constantly makes mistakes and is slower than molasses. This will sllow them to be independent of him telling them what to do. Could we all have that?

Messy Messy Messy! What a bunch of back biting liberal shenanigans all scoping for the highest stack of money. The Sates take over will be worse but when all else fails that is what is going to happen and it looks like the taxpayers here locally will be left holding the bag and our money will be going south along with our water. Helping people to speak a foreign language. If there is not some sort of conspiracy going down I would be surprised. Sabotage maybe? Maybe you all are just over educated and conditioned in liberal "give us more" ways. How many news articles have there been this last month alone. There are more than the body count reports coming back from the two fronts in the Middle East alone.

Inspire is doing some smart things. They are assembling an all-star staff. Nillson and Pearson are good people and attract the best. When Marsh started, the most positive and hard working teachers wanted to work for Sloan and the school took off. When Brown and Staley dismantled Marsh, they had the power over personnel. Inspire wants to protect themselves from that. They can tell the district office to take a flying leap. I think it will blow away the regular high schools.

Not having to hire CUTA employees means the new high school will be able to hire teachers that have been laid off because of lack of seniority. Some of the greatest teachers in this town ended up working at charter schools this year because they were laid off. Now this new high school will get even more of them.

Hey, more power to them if they can hire the best ones. We ask that of regular schools all the time. What we can't do is complain when they actually pull it off. They aren't stealing the best teachers. The best teachers are WANTING to go there. No more B.S. from the district, no superintendents who want to micromanage. When they succeed, our district office needs to look at why? Then they need to admit that there is only one variable. Same kids, same requirements, same money, but different management.

Amazing that this charter school was able to get on the board agenda, but Chico Country Day School was not.

Good grief. What is it with you people?

As nearly as I can decipher the headline, there needs to be an apostrophe in "Inspires." It's horrible sentence construction in any case, but that at least makes some sense.

So is there any word on where exactly this school will be located? Will it definitely be Chico High or are they still trying to secure a site?

What you are saying is that old dead wood, the tenured teachers were kept as required by idiotic laws and there union advocates. These are part of what has been strangling our youths creativity. No teacher will even dare talk about it because they all want to retire and still pretend they are noble teachers. Yet what they desire most is to belittle and abuse the young prettier ones. They want to reach the point where the ride is free.

I'm involved in the Inspire movement and this is exactly what we want to do! Jeff Sloan was the greatest educator this or any district around here, has ever seen. He took the best of the best from Chico Jr. High and left the rest in their burned out incompetent ways. The Dream Team at Marsh was just that. They excelled in teaching, fundraising, community building and parents flocked to this magnificent school. When the district stepped in, they literally got rid of every one of "The Team." Most left the district from what I hear. The union did nothing. They were in on the "dismantle Marsh" scheme because they too protect the low level teachers and did not want anyone to expose how things could be done differently. So they clammed up, except for Gary Janoz, Lisa Reynolds, Kevin Moretti, Ann Stephens, Loris Camy and a few others who stood up against those who would tear Marsh, and Jeff Sloan, down. Ask any parent with students in ANY school in "the district" and they will tell you what a cess pool it is. Student's don't learn anything because teachers don't teach. Jeff Sloan was the answer and look what happened to him! The current "district" administration are mostly iditiots who have a clear agenda. They want to destroy schools, kids and their families. Most of them have huge personal issues and are unhappy qusi-professionals. Their self-hate spews out to the schools. Why else would they give teachers an 11% raise? Because they knew that it would cripple schools financially and bring them down. This is what they want to do with the charters. Bring them too their knees too. Many are near retirement and all they want to do is be able to leave and see that their real goal, tearing down schools, kids and families, is completed. At this rate they will succeed. I hope that Jjon Mohr will run for school board again and be successful. He and Andrea Lerner will form a coalition for change. Mohr has run before and been very close to winning. Lerner needs help. If they can't get Sloan back in, they could at least attract more educators like him. We need one more person to get the three votes needed for change. Forget the goons the union puts up. Find someone like Zane Schrader from Country Day to run! The charter schools will flourish because parents are involved and get what they want from the administrators and teachers. Because they work directly for the parents! Simple. I hope the new Green charter high school looks closely at Jeff Sloan as their principal. He will get it done!

Actually, Inspire will do the same. They have some awesome people already. Billy Hague from Marsh was just added to the staff. I think Hague, Pearson, Gimble were all hired by Sloan so you know they will be postiive and energetic. Inspire will be the type of high school that we have needed for a long time. Eric is a great guy and they will succeed.

I was intrigued by this school until I saw this rant. If these are people involved (negative, stuck in the past, elitists) I want no part of it.

I think the Green charter school is Waldorf and I'm not sure Jeff Sloan would be interested in that style of school. I would be happy to see him at Inspire though.

The person who wrote that rant was obviously sarcastic. Could be Brown. Inspire knows they will come after them and try to make negative publicity. We have to ignore it. The CUSD people will want to create controversy any way they can. They will try to attack the people at Inspire with everything they have.
