axpayers Spent $1.4 Billion Last Year on the Obama Family... 24 Times the Royal Family

“biggest staff in history at the highest wages ever”

9/27/12

In his book Presidential Perks Gone Royal: Your Taxes Are Being Used For Obama's Re-election, Keith Gray argues the taxpayers are on the hook for $1.4 billion in the last year to pay for all the perks the Obama family gets.

From theDC:

Taxpayers spent $1.4 billion dollars on everything from staffing, housing, flying and entertaining President Obama and his family last year, according to the author of a new book on taxpayer-funded presidential perks.

In comparison, British taxpayers spent just $57.8 million on the royal family.

Gray told The Daily Caller that the $1.4 billion spent on the Obama family last year is the “total cost of the presidency,” factoring the cost of the “biggest staff in history at the highest wages ever,” a 50 percent increase in the numbers of appointed czars and an Air Force One “running with the frequency of a scheduled air line.”

“The most concerning thing, I think, is the use of taxpayer funds to actually abet his re-election,” Gray, who worked in the Eisenhower administration and for other Republican presidents, said in an interview with TheDC on Wednesday.

“The press has been so slow in picking up on this extraordinary increase in the president’s expenses,” Gray told TheDC.

Specifically, Gray said taxpayer dollars are subsidizing Obama’s re-election effort when he uses Air Force One to jet across the country campaigning.

The proper comparison is not with the British Royal family but with past US presidents. Until you see or report some numbers on that, this is just a silly comparison. It is clutching at straws to make anything stick against the president. Again, why doesn't this person write about past presidents like Bush and Clinton for a more truthful take on this? I bet 'cause it wouldn't look very different from Obama's administration.

That is like saying we should compare the amount of debt ran up under oslama compared to Bush and it wouldn't look much different..........ROTFLMAO

But they are actually about the same in spending, aren't they? And the first president came into office with a surplus, the second with massive deficits and an economic disaster inherited from the first (although not solely the fault of his predecessor). You are right, they are not comparable. But not for the reasons you think.

Repubicans like one can't connect the dots. Simple butt accurate analogy: bush trashed the car (economy, then wrecked the car (economy and now Obama is having to pay for it.

Are you counting Obama's first year in office when the last Bush-Democratic Congress budget came into effect? You know that it would not be fair to count that as part of the debt contributed by Obama, don't you? What do the adjusted statistics look like? And what about the differences in circumstances that I mentioned? Doesn't context matter in policy decisions?

I agree that arguments free of context are not very helpful. FDR can be judged as being one of our worst presidents if one looks at the economic statistics during his terms in office compared to some others, but knowing the context of the Great Depression and when he came into office and what he did in office paints him in a different light, at least according to majorities of American citizens and historians alike.

To use your scenario the car keeps crashing again every day..........LOL

As the economy has steadily gone down..........LOL

Lets take a look at some indicators......

More people today are unemployed or underemployed than in Jan 2009

House price are lower

Foreclosure rates are higher

Numbers of business leaving the USA or closing are higher

Number of new business starting up are lower

Food prices are higher

Energy prices are higher

Consumer confidence is lower....

The GDP is lower

The debt is higher..

But is that for three or four years? Remember, the debt from the 2009 budget was not Obama's. Are you taking that into account? If you do, you'll see that Bush's is really closer to one third and Obama's is closer to one quarter, I think.

Oslama is the king.......

But I did name him Bush with a paint job in 2008 as I new he would spend like Bush who is number two for debt but out do even him

FYI

Dear casual reader,

Judging by the volume and content of his posts, HERE IS ONE, aka MEXITROLL is nothing but a disruptive troll...

He is a proven liar and the laughing stock of TOPIX, engaging him in debates is not only a waste of time but is counterproductive, he spreads conservative lies and disinformation and attempts to stifle debate, he is best ignored, replying to his posts is like feeding an irritating gnat....

His modus operandi is to misinterpret what he reads, disregard links which prove him wrong, claim victory after posting irrelevant links, engaging in endless word parsing and ridiculous semantics, barging into various threads with totally irrelevant material and other childish pranks worthy of a snotty nosed juvenile....

Further proof that HERE IS ONE aka MEXITROLL barges in with his irrelevant nonsense in order to disrupt a thread....

Can you tell us what your little rant has to do with economic indicators???

Yes the main reason that profits are up is because they are also sitting on record amounts of cash

I know you don't understand this but they could save tons in taxes and lower there profits by investing and expanding there business

You see every dollar they spend hiring someone comes out of their profit and that lowers their profit and there taxes

And as I told you a 100 times is that business will not start spending their cash until oslama is fired
Thanks for making my point

Business don't trust oslama so they are holding their cash or investing it off shore

Canada lowered its max tax rate on the rich to 15 percent
Mexico has some zero tax plans for investors

There economies ar

As I look at the information from the link below, the debt grew by at least 5.5 trillion under Bush in eight years and has grown/will grow about 4.5 trillion under Obama in three years (these are the straight numbers devoid of context and circumstance, though, as I pointed out earlier. These include economic circumstances but also built-in, inherited spending levels from predecessors and differing levels of tax receipts, which you should also think about in terms of context).

Check out this link but remember to adjust for the year for which a president is actually responsible and then add in about a trillion for Obama in 2009 for the stimulus package. Whatever TARP funds were spent in 2009 should also be counted as Bush spending (and added to his 5.5 trillion), but I don't have the data on that. These numbers then present the best case for Bush and the worst for Obama in terms of the debt they are responsible for as president to date (along with the Congresses they have to work with, of course).
