Early in the posts on this thread somebody judged me a nut for relaying a story about Barths store in Chico. The thread is entitled Barths Store.

How can I be nuts to talk about barth's Store?

Funny how we shift topics so quickly and thoroughly.

Also, I have no recollection of any homeless camps during the Reagan years. Other then a few homeless people in big cities, I did not notice this phenomenon until the Obama years.

People are judging constantly on these forums it's kinda like the heat in the kitchen, so to speak.

Personally I got no clue what this Barths Store is and I am sure neither do many other folks.

I was living in Sunnyvale (silicon Valley) in the early 70's when they closed the Agnew facility, thanks to cutbacks initiated by …

then governor Reagan, and a few years later one could not walk in down town San Jose without tripping over homeless folks sleeping on the sidewalks and…

matters went downhill from then on.

I went to a south bay Catholic school (which shall remain nameless) during the early 80's that did volunteer work at Agnews Hospital. Maybe it was reopened.

Small world.

It's a small world alright.

I do not know what kind of volunteer work the Catholic School did at Agnews in the 80's, but as the following article states, 1971 was the year when they begun closing mental hospitals and dumping folks on "community treatment programs," basically they put those people on the street…
