Newly released videos obtained by CBS News suggest that the 16-year-old girl who was run over by a fire truck and killed after surviving a crash on ill-fated Asiana Airlines Flight 214 might have been visible to rescue workers, contradicting earlier reports that she was covered with fire-extinguishing foam.

Firefighters refuse to help downtown Chico homeless problem. A proposal to use firefighters on patrol to address transient problems and other issues has fallen flat.
Interim Chief Keith Carter said he took offense comments that the Fire Department sits idly by and is not part of the community.
The notion that firefighters sit around waiting for calls is also a falsehood, Carter said. They also maintain their stations and equipment, check hydrants, and undergo two hours of daily training.
“We are not just sitting around baking cookies,” he said.

Maybe the City of Chico could hire fire hydrant checkers, maintenance personnel and janitors at lesser salaries .

Some Chico firefighters have seemed quite defensive over a proposal by former Chico City Councilor Bob Evans that the firefighters could help patrol downtown.
Evans suggested the firefighters could walk around downtown, in uniform, to act as another set of eyes for the Police Department — just as the private security personnel did when they were hired by a downtown group during the holiday shopping season.

The firefighters convinced a council committee that they weren’t just sitting around without things to do.

, Chico firefighters canvassed downtown Friday to ask for citizens’ support of a grant the City Council will be. asked to approve Tuesday.

A dozen off-duty firefighters, many with their families, walked up and down the downtown core, going into restaurants, shops and other businesses to ask for support. They handed out fliers explaining the need for increased staffing and the potential grant.

Firefighters association members receive pay and benefit packages at 300 to 400 percent of the average Chico citizen. They claim they are “entitled” to this exorbitant pay due to the risks of their jobs. Our heroes in military service only get 25 percent to 30 percent of what firefighters receive. Do you think they are more deserving than our active military?

The Hamilton City Fire Department is seeking a few good men and women. The Glenn County-based fire department is accepting applications for its volunteer firefighter brigade and the ready reserve brigade.

Risks??????????

ONE fire fighter died in the entire history of Chico.

Almost every occupation, including dress designer, night club singer and interior decorator have higher mortality rates than that.

The fire personnel in Chico are nothing but a bunch of greedy little sissies.

I just heard on the news that the firefighters are asking the city council for a promotion and pay increase. The union got a grant to pay for 2 years of the promotion. But after that the city is on the hook.

More BMW's for Chico! Or maybe that's Bently's.

Explosive growth in CalPERS $100K pension club

Back in 2005, some 1,841 retirees pulled down more than $100,000 a year in pension checks from the California Public Employees Retirement System.
And by the end of 2012, membership more than doubled yet again, to 14,763, according to data from CalPERS.
That's up 700 percent in less than a decade. The rate of inflation over the same period was 38 percent.
