Randy, I think you made the important distinction here, that the mailer showed a picture of the fire chiefs endorsing Wahl, Sorensen, and Valente.

As you might know, it is essentially against the law for agencies such as police or fire departments to endorse one candidate against another. Hence the reason why Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott is under federal investigation for attending a political rally in uniform. That said, labor unions representative of public employees such as the firefighter and police locals can and routinely do make endorsements within their capacity as a labor union.

As the union represents rank-and-file employees, management personnel such as chiefs are not represented. Moreover, management personnel such as the chief often take positions contradictory to that occupied by the union. So for the IAFF local and the fire chief to diverge on endorsements is not unexpected. The Fire Chiefs endorsed Wahl, Sorensen, and Valente. The rank-and-file Chico Firefighters did not.

Randy is unable to grasp the concept of endorsements. The word endorse is no where on that mailer. Chico Firefighters Association, IAFF has a PAC and puts out its own endorsement mail under their name. The AfCF mailers clearly state says "Not authorized by any candidate or a committee controlled by any candidate."

Make that "ex-fire chief".

BTW, Randy when Kirk used pictures of John McCain on her mail did that mean that he endorsed her?

Thanks for the information John Elias. That was helpful and made sense. I do see the chief's picture and that explains everything.

Flym, I don't know if Kirk endorsed John McCain 2 years ago. Perhaps she did. I'm not sure it matters the other way around. But unlike McCain, I'm pretty sure those chiefs would be up-in-arms if Accountability for Chico's Tomorrow used their picture in the political hit piece without their permission. I also don't think that the candidates would have allowed their pictures to be used (assuming they weren't GIVEN to AfCT) without their blessing and endorsement.

I also think this latest mailer is nearly precisely the same as the hit piece with Bill Glazner's son on the cover and issued by the Hooker Oak Alliance (in fact, it cites the exact same language as the homophobic piece by the HOA two years ago). And interestingly enough, the candidates are essentially the same (Sorensen, the incumbent, and a far too inexperienced candidate with no practical budgeting or professional experience).

As for "ex-fire chief" what business would the "ex-fire chief" have implying the fire departments endorsement of these three candidates? And if these candidates AREN'T supported by the fire department why is it that that is not noted on the mailer? In fact, I don't find "Fire Chiefs" on the mailer at all. I only see "Firefighter(s)" 5 times on the mailer and "law enforcement/public safety/officers/police" 14 times on the mailer. And you are telling me that neither the police or fire department officers have endorsed a candidate including these three candidates? And this is acceptable to these three candidates, to have a mailer out such as this? And they approved of having their pictures on this mailer? This includes the fire chiefs (or ex-chief)?

What about that Chamber of Commerce mailer in everyone's mailbox? You mean to tell me that the Chair of the Chamber of Commerce Board (Mark Sorensen) didn't have anything to do with the Chamber of Commerce mailer (that it was "not authorized by any candidate or a committee controlled by a candidate")? That's a little naive don't you think?

Who is not present on Wahl's quite lengthy list of endorsements.

Partial list of endorsements. Not that that is relevant because the mailer did not come from Wahl.

The guy meant [Steve Brown] WHOM is not present on the endorsement list. A mistake in grammar isn't an invitation to waste bandwidth. Do you also use the cs [sic] when your spell check catches a spelling mistake in other peoples' posts?

FYI, campaigns use endorsement cards to get signed permission to publicly use a supporter's name. Lacking permission from both the people on the list to use their names and the owner of the material on the website to re-post their material on this forum an ethical person would post a representative sample and a link to the rest. Re-posting is just rude.

How do you know I don't have permission?

W T F C?

BTW, I sent the letter to the Grand Jury today requesting an investigation into the purchase of that over-priced land.$900,000 for 1.1 acre is outrageous. Talk about wasting tax dollars that they didn't need to spend.
