President Obama won't be blackmailed again over the debt limit.

At a recent press conference he said,“The issue here is whether or not America pays its bills. We are not a deadbeat nation.”

“These are bills that have already been racked up, and we need to pay them. So, while I’m willing to compromise and find common ground over how to reduce our deficits, America cannot afford another debate with this Congress about whether or not they should pay the bills they’ve already racked up.”

Current Republican leaders in Congress voted to raise the debt limit 18 times as President George W. Bush led America from projected surpluses to the trillion-dollar-plus deficit President Obama inherited.

Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-TN) voted for debt limit increases in June 2002, May 2003, November 2004, March 2006 and September 2007. Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX) voted to increase the debt limit in May 2003, November 2004 and March 2006.

all hObama needs to do is to get reasonable about working toward a blanaced budget, or at least......trimming down our yearly deficits that he has run up to over a $trillion per year.
We now have nearly a $16.5 trillion national debt. thanks to obama spending policy.
He must be reigned in or he will break the Country.

hObama has hurt the middle class with the payroll tax hike. Now he should do the right thing and cut spending in order for us working folks to believe that he is at least thinking about lowering our national debt.

We are currently paying over $500 Billion per year in interest payments alone on the national debt. thanks to hObama.

$500 billion could nearly fund the entire military budget.....or a big chunk of social security, or more funding for schools, or....well you get the idea.

hObama needs to STOP SPENDING our grandchildrens future.

The president is ready and willing to work toward a better budget. Congress has two months to work out spending cuts because the mandatory cuts forced by their own sequestration scheme was extended for two months.

A responsible country pays the debts they ALREADY OWE, which is what the debt ceiling vote is all about.

Spending cuts should be part of the NEW budget, not used as blackmail for the old budget

Our debt was built up by 3 repub administrations, culminating in the Bush disaster. The huge 2009 deficit-- the first year of Obama's administration-- was a leftover from Bush.

The debt was never raised as much by any president even in 8 years as oslama has done in four years......

Let the country go into default......

The national debt debate is the subject for the NEW budget. If the repubs force us to default on our current debt we will be forced into a bigger recession, and our debt will explode even higher.

So the repubs don't show any fiscal responsibility-- just the opposite.

The T baggers in Congress only care that they get re-elected. They don't care about the country as a whole. In their safe, ultra- dumbsht districts all they care about is not losing their nomination to someone who's even more batsht crazy than themselves.

The moronic liberal spending must stop before the credit rating of the USA is lowered again....

http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/...

It is very possible the rating could be downgraded so far that the interest rate on the debt could not even be paid.....

Of the 5+ trillion of debt added since Obama took office here's the breakdown of what he inherited:

1.6 trillion for the two wars. Bush hid this cost from his budgets.

1.4 trillion for interest on the already standing debt.

1.6 trillion for Bush era tax cuts.

BTW, repubs and dems both agreed to keep the tax cuts for those earning under 400K a year, but for different reasons. IF ALL of the tax cuts had been eliminated our deficit would be cut dramatically-- BUT raising taxes on the middle class would have hurt our economy.

The dems wanted to keep the middle-class tax cuts as a type of stimulus spending-- the middle class spends most of its earnings, which keeps the economy moving.

The repubs kept the tax cuts for their one and only reason-- they hate taxes.

If the T baggers force us to default we WILL see interest rates rise and our credit rating downgraded.

It's the rightwing-nuts who want a civil war. Check out Glenn Beck and others, who will say anything to make a buck for themselves.

Texas is a big state. Why don't all of you move there, and secede from the U.S.? Then you can have a little nutjob country just for yourselves.

Make it a law that everyone has to carry guns, especially high capacity military style guns. According to you guys there would then be safety and peace for all.

Eliminate minimum wages, unions, and anti- child labor laws. Eliminate taxes and get rid of social security, medicare and safety net programs. Let the Koch's and big oil run your state by buying off all of the politicians.

And we'll build a huge fence all around your border. You ain't coming back.

The most red states are the poorest. And those are the idiots who would move to your new Confederacy of Texas.

The blue states pay for the red states. I say good riddance.
