In another topic I meantioned how the republicon states are attempting to make it more difficult for students, minorities, and the elderly to vote. A few of our resident righties disputed this easily researched fact.

"There have been 176 bills introduced in 41 states to restrict voting rights just since 2011. As a result, 32 states now require some form of ID to vote. Of these, 14 states have implemented particularly strict photo ID laws that require individuals to obtain birth certificates, marriage licenses, or other documentation to substantiate their identity prior to obtaining the ID. These states have included provisions that particularly target college students by rejecting students IDs or out-of-state licenses as legitimate forms of ID. According to the Brennan Center, about 10% of voters, or more than 5 million people, do not have the photo IDs required." http://www.politicususa.com/new-get-out-the-v...

"The latest purge comes on the heels of a trio of new voting restrictions passed by Florida Republicans last year, disenfranchising 100,000 previously eligible (non-violent) ex-felons who'd been granted the right to vote under GOP Governor Charlie Crist in 2008; shutting down non-partisan voter registration drives; and cutting back on early voting. The measures, the effect of which will be to depress Democratic turnout in November, are similar to voting curbs passed by Republicans in more than a dozen states, on the bogus pretext of combating "voter fraud" but with the very deliberate goal of shaping the electorate to the GOP's advantage before a single vote has been cast."
http://thenewstalkers.com/forum/topics/florid...

This is just scratching the surface of available information. The republicons want to steal this election.

Here you are again talking sh_t. I didn't read this crap. The only suppression there is, is your ability not to be the anti-American you are. You are to. You hate the whole process because it works against your sick ideas doesn't it? Come on admit it. You know you are about 10% of the thinking in this country you cut and paste master blaster you.

Of course the righties will claim that all of these laws are needed in order to stop "rampant voter fraud".

Virtually all have been justified by their sponsors as measures to prevent “voter fraud,” a phenomenon for which there is remarkably little evidence anywhere in the country. As Tovah Andrea Wang, an election law expert at Demos, has concluded:“[L]aw enforcement statistics, reports from elections officials and widespread research have proved that voter fraud at the polling place is virtually nonexistent.” The Bush administration’s Justice Department tried to a scandalous degree to find cases of voter fraud to prosecute, and failed.

"But as Marge Baker, executive vice president of People for the American Way, observes:

So-called anti-fraud laws are almost always thinly veiled attempts to prevent large segments of the population from making it to the ballot box … low-income voters, college students, people of color, the elderly. The people behind these laws know that there is no “voter fraud” epidemic. They just want to make it as difficult as possible for certain types of people to vote."
http://www.salon.com/2011/09/30/votesuppresio...

"Are there reliable statistics on voter fraud?
What we can go by is the number of times that people have been prosecuted successfully for such crimes. And the number is ridiculously low. You have a better chance of being hit by lightning than discovering an incident of polling place fraud."
http://www.usnews.com/opinion/articles/2012/0...

The real fraud here is the republicon attempt to limit voting by those groups who vote largely for democrats.

The Hypocrisy of some Minorities (Playing the race card), who claim they don't have I.D. to show (which is required) for voting, but can easily provide needed I.D. to get Freebies such as Welfare, and Food Stamps"

Let's be honest about the issue of Voter Identification. The goal is to allow illegals to vote. It has nothing to do with minorities or low income individuals not having the ability to obtain a photo id for voting purposes. This is another attempt to corrupt our ballot box.

I think you'll find that welfare recipients will jump through any hoop, climb any mountain, ride any bus or stand in any line to get free money and food.

My wife has brought home stories from school regarding the intricacies these individuals will navigate to wrench every dime from the government that they can.

Were they to put even half that effort into a job, they'd excel beyond anyone's wildest imaginations.

Since securing an ID to vote doesn't result in more money or food, they will cry "foul" and put no effort into it.

I was asked to show my id the last time I voted. I almost said hell no but didn't; this time, screw it, I will challenge it unless they change the law. This is BS, if you don't have any id you don't vote. I don't care who it effects, tuff, there are plenty of ways to get idenification.

Without ID they can't get a drivers license

They can't go to school

They can't get welfare

They can't get a library card

There are very few people that don't have ID and if they don't they are not smart enough to vote....

Requiring ID does not restrict any legal citizen from voting.....

If you immigrated to this country you have ID

If you were born in this country it is very easy to get ID

Do you really think anyone believes the garbage you post???
Even one person???

Well they don't.......LOL

Voting is our primary RIGHT, unlike driving or getting a job.

There is very little voter fraud. "Prosecutable cases of voter fraud are rare. For example, a 2005 statewide study in Ohio found four instances of ineligible persons voting or attempting to vote in 2002 and 2004, out of 9 million votes cast. An investigation of fraud allegations in Wisconsin in 2004 led to the prosecution of 0.0007 percent of voters. From 2002 to 2005, the Justice Department found, only five people were convicted for voting multiple times. In that same period, federal prosecutors convicted only 86 people for improper voting."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/five-m...

"Most instances of improper voting involve registration and eligibility, such as voters filling out registration forms incorrectly or a person with felony convictions attempting to register. Neither of those issues would be prevented by a state photo ID requirement."

If these disenfranchised voters were largely republicon, and the dem's were trying to push this bogus agenda, Fox News, Limbaugh, and the entire right-wing blogosphere would be yelling bloody murder...

And I would agree with them.

Yes voting is a right just like going to school is a right but the government can mandate that to enter school you must have a birth certificate unless you are Latino....

They can also require that you be vaccinated

They can also require that you follow other rules.......

And yes I agree it is almost impossible to prosecute someone for voter fraud as there is no checks and balance for it.....

Someone registers to vote and there is no system to check and see if they are eligible

Someone then votes using that registration and there is no system in place to make sure they are who they claim to be....

So it is very difficult to catch them.....

And showing ID to vote harms nobody......Period........

Even Mexico requires a voter ID card..........ROTFLMAO

Voting is our PRIMARY right, and we should bend over backwards to allow every legal voter to do so. This is what our democracy is all about.

I thought we wanted a less intrusive government. There's so little voter fraud that it's statistically irrelevant. For those who do committ such fraud there are very stiff penalties. The new purges are bogus, just another way for the fascistic republicons to try to win an election.

Show us evidence of all this voter fraud. Show us how there are no 'checks and balances'. Show us how there is no system to 'check and see if they're eligible'.

Ah, Mexico is such a great example for us. And it isn't just 'showing ID' that's involved. There's the elimination of early voting, of voting on weekends, the cost and time involved with having to get 3 or 4 different ID's from the DMV, Social Security, and so on.

Sure, some folks will go through all of these hoops and circles. But how many legitimate voters will just give up?

Even Romney's advisor says that these stringent qualifications will disenfranchise many voters.

Question-- how many legitimate voters will end up not voting for ever one fraud they prevent? One thousand to one? Ten thousand to one?
