CARD representatives say they are losing revenue due to problems with the homeless, including littering.I beg to differ. The homeless are a huge problem because they bring disease and terrific health problems that become an issue for our emergency rooms and the cost is born by our hospitals and taxpayers.
They also create a poor environment for our downtown business people and shoppers that are trying to enjoy our town. If the situation is not corrected then the shoppers will leave and then the businesses will close. A dead downtown will leave Chico in a very bad way. It is imperative that the town council and citizenry of Chico begin to relocate these homeless people out of the town, hopefully back to the bay where they belong in the first place.
When we have potential customers who come to the center and are looking at the possibilities of renting the center for weddings, meetings or bar mitzvahs, they have a certain expectation. Sometimes their expectation is impacted by seeing homeless there. When they see homeless there, sometimes it affects their decision.
