Curious to know why the asst. principals and principals were terminated in the system, as a way to make cuts in the budget...These people were there for a good number of years, and they all came from the elementary schools. The high school was not touched, and they have three principals..I guess Robin is going to really earn her money covering the different schools. Maybe they'll throw Bush in the mix, so he can impart his sense and wisdom.. I'm really wondering who made this decision, and what they are on. I'm also anxious to see the repercussions

We've been informed by one principal that they have been cut.

We understand budget shortfalls, but maybe it's time to sharpen the pencil a little more in other areas that are "nice to have" and not "need to have".

I am wondering why we need so many administrative paper pushers who are making way over $40,000 and some even over $80,000. This school district is not big and if the teachers can live off of less than $40,000 a year then why can't they? Surely they can't possibly think that they do more work or deserve it more than the teachers and better yet, since we are having such a budget crisis, then why can't they multi-task like our teachers and include teaching some classes and coaching in their schedules? I think they all have grown too big for their britches and they need to put their money where their mouth is and lead by making some sacrifices of their own. All administrative positions including principals and assistants and of course the paper pushers could be taking on extra duties like teaching 1-3 classes or driving buses without extra pay. Hell they are already making twice to almost three times the amount of teachers, it's time that they actually start earning it or for some of those positions to be cut.

Heres a brief look at some of the waste. There are some good people in this county but if we need to make cut backs then why are most of their salaries 2-3 times the salaries of teachers. They are not the ones teaching and dealing with the students on a daily basis. The cuts should start with their salaries or they should add teaching to their list of duties and maybe then they would not be so out of touch with what is really going on in the classrooms. Most of these people haven't taught school in 10-20 years. Classrooms sizes are already increased this year and they will increase again. This list does not include all the director salaries. Mr. Y. Brown should also be cut along with the rest of the people who have jobs that could be multi tasked or added to the responsiblities of one of the administrators.

In Chickasha the Principals/Assistant Principals, will receive a $300 car allowance.

Other suggestions would be to do block schedules and hire part time teachers. Those who don't need the benefits or 401k and just want to teach? Or have longer days and cut out Fridays. There are so many things that they could do.

Six administrators were notified this week that they would no longer be working for the Chickasha Public School System. The approximate combined years of service from these people to the youth of Chickasha is 106 years. We all know that experience doesn't always equal excellent professionals, but in this case, it does! It's great that people are questioning what seems to be "the easy way out" of a financial short fall that doesn't even yet solidly exist! We keep referencing these people who lost their jobs as "administrators." Let's talk about who they are as not numbers or administrators but who they are as human beings. Kathy Wenzel, mother of Justin and Desirae, wife, and grandmother of two. Her dedication to Chickasha Public Schools spans 17 years of her life. Have you ever met Kathy Wenzel? Drive by Grand Avenue at around 7:00 PM on any given night of the week, and you will see that she is still at work. How about Elizabeth Kethum? Have you ever met her? I have. Elizabeth Ketchum, mother of two and recently widowed. Ask a student who has ever felt like they just needed to quit school, and then ask them why they didn't. The answer will always be because Mrs. Ketchum lifted me up and made me believe in myself. Mr. Thomas Jeffries? Do you know that gentleman. I do. Mr. Jeffries, husband to a long-time Chickasha teacher and father of three. Mr. Jeffries is one of a handful of African-American highly educated professionals in the district. You get the idea. Since I am a taxpayer in Grady County, I would be very willing to sit down with the board of education and Mr. Jim Glaze to review the accounting to see if we could find other ways to cut the budget. I think maybe the current adminstration can no longer see the forest from the trees, and a few sets of fresh eyes on the books might help them realize that NOBODY needs to lose his or her job. If you are willing to volunteer to take a look at the accounting for the school, let the board office know. Everything there IS public knowledge.

Does anyone wonder about the ridiculous nature of ALL of this? Convince the community to build a new, multimillion dollar facility, and YET, not be able to meet the current budget??? So, instead of loyalty to excellent, dedicated, long-standing teachers, we FIRE them and give Robin more duties, more authority, all the while bragging about how wonderful our school system is, and how great it's going to be to have a new early childhood building. How sad to think about our system with Mrs. Wenzel, Mr. Jeffries and Ketchum.

REMEMBER BRUCE MYERS-TRICE BRODERICK-BUDDY TURLEY? THESE MEN RAN THE CHICKASHA SCHOOLS WITHOUT THE BENEFIT OF 6-7 ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENTS. IF THE SCHOOL BOARD IS GOING TO MAKE NEEDED CUTS PERHAPS THE FIRST CUTS SHOULD BE MADE WITH THE UNNECESSARY ADMIN AND EACH OF THEIR SECRETARIES ON NINTH AND CHOCTAW. LET THE SUPERINTENDENT RUN THE SYSTEM HIMSELF, THE WAY IT WAS IN THE PAST AND IT WAS A PRETTY DARN GOOD SCHOOL SYSTEM. LETS MAKE THE BUDGET CUTS AT THE VERY TOP AND NOT AT THE LEVEL WHERE ITS HURTS OUR STUDENTS.

Grady county is not that big there are some school districts that are bigger than all the schools in Grady combined. So why do we have to have a superintendent for every school district? And how in the heck have these people gone from making 30,000 to 40,000 a year to make over 100,000 when a teacher's salary is topped off at in the 40's? People really need to see a problem with this. Chickasha does not need an athletic director or more than one superintendent? Why cut principals when they should be starting right there in their own house and with their own salaries when there are superintendents out there making far less. This is a sad day and anyone involved in this decision to fire teachers or principals before starting with the administration, should step down or be fired.

More than several years ago, we decided we didn't have enough bubble-heads in administration, earning exhorbitant salaries, so we began hiring a bunch more. I feel there were really so many, they were not quite sure what their various duties were. Unbelievable what the salaries are that they are getting. I might note, these were for the most part, stairclimbers, wannabes, and a--kissers that were basically favored sons/daughters on the inside that only had as their goal to pull a high salary. Other words, suck the system, get out of the trenches, and as far away from the students as possible. Chickasha touts "what's best for the students." I think that is a bunch of junk, and serious measures need to be taken to correct all these indescretions. I know most of the principals involved, and they not only are very fine individuals, with a lot of years behind them, but people of good character and tireless effort and commitment toward the betterment of our students and schools. I also might note, they were making quite a bit when you stack it against the average salary the classroom teachers are making. The people involved are Tressa Meeks, Thomas Jeffries, Kathy Wenzel, Don Simer, Jana Dabney, and Liz Ketchum.(I don't know if this has been published or not.) If you know them or do not, please show them your support. I believe the board meeting is May 10th.

I have to agree that the administration is making a horrible decision in firing these individuals. While I do not know all of them I do know Ms. Meeks, Mr. Simers, and Mr. Jefferies. I think this is a very poor decision. There has to be some way to not cut the people that care. I don't think we should start losing our principals or our teachers. Again I don't understand why we are building a new early childhood building if we cannot afford to pay the staff members. I know these people really care about their students and making a diffence in their lives. I don't know very many principals that would call and check on a child because they were concerned when they were sick. But Ms. Meeks will do this. I think that we all need to be supporting our principals. If you are against this the board meeting is May 10 and you can also write letters to support these kind people and send them to the board of education. Lets hope that they will make a better decision to help the budget than doing what is planned.

Why is the Chickasha Public School System in financial trouble? Humm.. letís see.

How can a 2nd year middle school principal be making a salary equivalent to a principal with 17 years experience?

How did this same principal start out on the pay scale at step 17 with NO experience?

How can this same principal still have a job when he was the LAST one hired?

How can we justify keeping 3 assistant principals that make more than the 4 principals that are not being rehired?

Wouldnít it be more equitable to have all the schools take a hit and lose their assistant principals (with the exception of Newman at the High School because of the number of students at the High School)?

CPS has a Director of Special Education that has two assistants and two secretaries. Is that really necessary?

CPS Admin. Office
What does Pete Bush do?
What does Dwight Yokum do?
What does Robyn Morse do?
What does Janie Mantooth do?
What does Kendra Schenk do?
What does Donna York do?
How many assistants and secretaries do these administrators have?

Why does the Superintendentís Secretary make more than a 20 year college graduate TEACHER?

I could not have said it better myself. If the board does can not make any better decisions than this, then it is time for a new board that would have the nerve to do what's right for our students instead of for their friends. There are teachers jumping through hoops sharing classrooms and buying their own supplies and all they have to look forward to a $250 tax credit. We built Mr. Brown an entire sports complex just so he could have an office and his own secretaries. It's time that these people start answering their own phones or for the board to approve the purchase of several answering machines. These guys seem to have all time in the world and apparantly all the money. They are all driving around in school vehicles using school money for gas. Why is it that the highest paid positions come with all the perks. Wouldn't it be nice for all the teachers to get a gas expense, or extra days off, extra money to go towards their benefits etc. Where do we draw the lines and when will this madness end? The teachers are making a third of what most of the administators are making. Except for a handful of principals like Mrs. Edwards who is making $30000 more than they principals they decided to fire. hmmmm? Just wondering why we would start firing the principals who make the least instead of those who make the most? And why can't some of these administators pick up some extra jobs without pay like teaching, substituting, driving buses, or covering ISS instead of teachers? This system needs a overhaul and if they are not willing to take on more responsiblity for less pay, then why should the teachers?

Yes, a lot of questions should arise, and be dealt with. As I mentioned--way top-heavy on the administration end. Also as I mentioned--I'm sure many of them are not sure exactly what their duties are, other than to sit in a nice office, away from the students, draw a big salary, and maybe wonder why they're getting so much for the little they do. I do suppose they're feeling important, and probably smiling all the way to the bank.

This is not a comment about the principals, but I see that the construction of the new building has come up. Just wanted mention that building projects are totally separate from a school's general fund which pays for salaries, textbooks, etc. In Oklahoma, a school's general fund comes primarily from the state. Building projects are passed by bond issue. Bond issues for capital projects go to a vote of the people. If passed by a super majority, the district typically gets general obligation bonds to do the work and a portion of the taxpayer's property taxes pay for the bond payments. Money from a bond issue to build a building, fix a building or buy buses cannot be used for salaries. School finance as it has been set out in state law is just confusing. It's one of the only places I know of where an organization has to budget for a year based on projections that often turn out to be wrong.
This information doesn't make any of this situation any better, but I hope it helps clear up that one issue about how the district can build a building right now.

Also why is a Coach and his wife hired this year keeping their job and long time teachers are being let go? Again are coachs more important than teachers?
