Sooooo sad!!! But I think there must be more to this story. I have read several articles, all pretty much the same except kokh 25. If the parents began looking at 9 pm when exactly was the last time they saw him?. None of the articles address this. The story I hear in town is they didn't see him ALL day Wednesday.....why wait until 9 PM to begin looking?? I can't understand this. Poor poor baby, I just pray he went quickly. I think we can all learn multiple lessons from this. Our kids are curious, it is our responsibility to watch over them the best we can. We all need to stop and reflect on the job we are doing so we might prevent another horrible accident like this!

I have to agree with questions. This is a sad and horrible situation. Now I hear the mother blaming the Cyril police and asking for change "so this doesn't happen again". The first question I have is when he was last seen. I have children and I can promise that if I don't see my child I am not going to wait until 9pm to start looking. Why did the parents not know where he was? I know where my child is every minute of the day and if I don't know I find him, right then! Bottom line: it is the parents responsibility to watch their children not wait until you have no idea where they are and expect the police to waive a magic wand and instantly find them.

I agree with roadrunner246 100%. The Cyril police force DOES need to be changed. However, I can't believe I am saying this, but they done NOTHING wrong in this particular situation. Yes there has been many things in the past that is much need for the Cyril police to have a change, but this isn't one of them. The MOTHER didn't see her son all day, the MOTHER waited until late at night to start looking. Yes the police should have been more concerned with there being a missing child, but let's be honest, by the time they called him, that poor baby was already gone. If the mother wants someone to blame she should look in the mirror

I could not agree any stronger with all of you. This one is NOT on the police. I HOPE the parents are charged with neglect contributing to a death or manslaughter or the strongest charge there is avaiable.
How old was the little boy?

8 years old! I don't know if charges are going to be filed but I do know that the DA himself went to the scene.

You have to put blame on the parents, but why was an Amber Alert not issued? An 8 year old boy missing for an unknown amount of time, in 100+ degree temperatures? It meets the requirements for an alert to be issued. It would not have saved the child's life, but I don't see anything wrong with holding the police accountable for not doing their job! The parent's behavior, if they thought strange, should have definitely set off a lightbulb in their heads! It doesn't take much to call an Amber Alert. Fill out the paperwork, that includes name, age, sex, weight, last seen, description and picture. Then it goes from there. Both the parents and the police should be held accountable for not doing their jobs!

When exactly were the police notified? Does anyone think there could be foul play involved here? Horrible for an 8 year old to die alone like this. Didn't anyone care enough to look???

Police were notified some time around 10:00 p.m. The family looked some that evening and then continued their search in the morning. Don't think there was foul play in my opinion, I do however think the family was at the very least neglectful in providing the adequate supervision for the child.

You need to look your info up on a Amber Alert. That doesnt qualify look on channel five news there is a 16 yr old missing from grady county and they said has of last nite it didnt qualify for a Amber Alert. The parents need to be held responsible. Lets own up to our own mistakes instead of putting the blame on someone else.

kids like to go to their friends house and parents don't know when they leave there

so they think they are still at there friends house,

so my kids don't go anywhere but where they say they are going and come straight home and call before they do.

like the fella who lived in rolling meadows apartments, who have armed guards at the gate on Midwest blvd, in Midwest city who was talking about the barbecue he went to last night,

how they was beating this guy, and banging his head against the building...

he talked about it with a smile and enthusiasm,
like that was as tasty as the barbecued ribs.

Just want you to know that I did indeed look up Amber Alert informaion for Oklahoma. The 16 year old did not meet criteria for an alert to be issued because (if you read the story) the police do not suspect foul play. Oklahoma Amber Alert protocol requires certain criteria to be met. A. Child must be under 17 years of age. B. Must be thought to be in danger. C. Known to be abducted. You would have to be a blooming idiot to think that an 8 year old missing in dangerously hot temperatures for over half of the day was not in some kind of danger! A 16 year old has survival skills that an 8 year old has not yet learned. Just thought you might be interested in knowing. You need to quit riding Pewitt's coattails and recognize that law enforcement failed to do their job. It wouldn't have saved the kid's life but who knew that at 10:00 pm?

I don't necessarily suspect foul play. I would venture to guess neglect but I would not speculate that somebody put the child in the trunk. The parents have to accept that they failed to do things timely as well, and should be held responsible for not doing so, but to say that the police should not have issued an alert is absurd. If that were my child, a report would have been made the minute I became aware that they were unaccounted for. The blame is not just on one person here! Also as a parent I would have demanded that an alert be issued! Again I say, an 8 year old gone for more than 12 hours is not normal and a person with any kind of brains would be in fear for the childs life!

OMG! They slept, or even stopped searching, while their child was missing? These parents need a lie detector test and, most definately, charges filed against them.

They treated their little boy worse than most people would treat a lost pet.

Ok,so little boy was 8yrs old, he often looked for change to go to the store....WHICH IS ACROSS A HIGHWAY! WTF kind of parents let their 8yr old cross a highway? Where were the parents? ASLEEP!
And then they SAY he frequents a trailer park that is nearby, SINCE WHEN IS ACROSS ANOTHER HIGHWAY, NEARBY? And WTH would you wait til 9:00 or 10:00pm to start looking for the boy, when we have been having triple digit heat for 30+ days.
