Ummm the mall is in Evergreen Park fool...not Chicago. And in Chicago we take what we want from the Latino's and Blacks (see the Lakefront & Wicker Park) and make it worth more, you take over and it turns to shit!

I think that the Mayor of Evergreen just want to cater to the young upper class whites that is moving back into the Beverly, Evergreen and Oak Lawn areas, and faze out the mixture of the teens and others that shop at the Plaza now!

I grew up on the south side, with my mother always driving to Ford City(of course, being black, mama always made sure we left the parking lot before dark),in the 70's. She didn't like the Plaza then, because it was where everybody on the southside shopped, so everybody had the same stuff. Then in the eighties I was old enough to get on th bus with my friends(where do you think we went?)I didn't buy there, but it was fun hanging out...in the 90's, the drug money was big and the stores started catering to the money(why wouldn't they?),but I still went to Ford City(I could ride the bus safely after dark by then, as long as I stuck to the main building). Has anybody on here been to the Plaza lately...it's pretty empty...not much hangin'out...and other than the Carsons' and the footlocker, there's nothing there(xcept Wilson's)...the upscale stores can move back now,all the teenagers go to Ford City...when I go to York Town/Orland/Woodfield, I find the teenagers act the same as @Ford City...indoor malls allow the kids somewhere to shop, socialize and yeah, act an ass, without getting cold...
National was a big junk store who went to the Plaza because they figured that the poor people would definatly shop where the prices were so cheap...WRONG...shoplifting didn't hurt them, low sales did...now we could put Macy's in all that space...change a few other stores...keep some of the smaller stores(teenagers do spend a LOT of money), and the Plaza could thrive...of course if you can't stand to hobnob with teens at all, just shop at the open air malls...let us real shoppers have some warmth, teenagers don't intimidate me because I don't feel the need to intimidate them...

The Evergreen Plaza brings back so many childhood memories... especially around Christmas. I hope they work something out soon.

this mall needs to be closed because there are no stores inside of it. The only need for it to be open is if they get more stores.

I worked at Evergreen Plaza about 12 years ago. I was covering for a manager that was on maternity leave. I was threatened several times because I was thought to be "taking a job away from a "sister". I honestly don't think I would shop there whether it was torn down and rebuilt, or not. Who needs to have their life threatened in a shopping mall for pete's sake?
And look, Ford City really improved after it was remodeled many years ago, didn't it?
Ford City does not look any better to me. Last time I was there the food court had lost three restaurants including KFC and Taco Bell. It seems like a jhangout for the local gang bangers.

The Mayor of Evergreen Park does not own the Evergreen Plaza mall. The mall owners are currently looking to redevelop the mall as an open-air center, replacing the existing enclosed structure which hasn’t changed much in over 40 years.

I believe if its bought the stores shouldn't be changed but rebuilt. Why changed wads been here so long? I've been going to the plaza for twenty years and its place for every race and you should fix what isn't broke just rebuild and make better . Meanin rebuild what the fire damaged don't change it to another store. We complain there aren't enough jobs well fix the damaged so people can work?!! Instead of changing and putting people out of work yet again!?
