You know it's bird migration season right now too which means as they fly at night they are hitting alot of our windowed buildings. They are stunned and need help before the sun rises (and the gulls and hawks eat them) and there are a couple of great organizations that help (and the migratory season is only about 10 weeks, so not too many early mornings!)
The city turns off some of the bright lights during this time to try and prevent some of the collisions.
