IMHO, except for the express airport trains, all are good and necessary ideas to improve the city.

I would feel a lot better about the improvements made possible by such a large investment in our city's revitalization projects were it not for the fact that Daley and his corrupt cronies will be in the middle of it all. Money is sure to be wasted on second-rate construction, uninspired designs and contract awards that are certain to benefit the bank accounts of Daley, his family and his friends.

I put the budget at $30-45 billion and a lot of it won't work. Let's see how many people use the river walk before we expand it. The bus routes on old rail tracks make sense as well as redoing South Wacker (which has been on the board for years). Do need to do something with Union Station but this new plan is too much money and why connect two commuter terminals that serve different rail lines.

I'm sure this will have no impact on our taxes.

spend, spend, spend on the downtown area while 95% of the city is falling apart. does anyone in city government care one bit about the masses who pay pay pay taxes. haven't heard or seen anything about the bandshell in over a year, 800 million for what? a nice postcard photo. how about fixing the leaky water mains, trash cans and maintenance in the outlying parks, bicycle transport development (bloomingale line),better public transport to the west and south sides, pot hole repairs, and some property tax relief as propety values plummet. 41 years of the daleys and the grand plan is make the city good for tourists, giant corporations and the 1% of the populace that live downtown. citizens, it's time for a change!!! get these idiots out before the olympics.

With all the higher taxes we'll be paying, the only express train I'll be on is the one out of town. What hubris. Dream on, nitwits. You can't manage block 37 and that's across the street.

pathetic. too little, too late. this is all still hyperbolic "vapor ware" as per all the smoke that is continuously blown up the "arses" of the the poor, huddled, over taxed working masses of the living, breathing hell that is modern-day, miserable Chicago.

I don't believe the airport express train service or the clinton subway are wise use of limited dollars. A lot of the other ideas are great though. I would love to see some streetcar proposals, which would be much more cost efficient, and I'd love to see some programs like this benefiting the neighborhoods too, not just the central area. How about a streetcar down the middle of Ashland or Western, like Commonwealth Ave. in Boston?

why are you people angry about this? Stop thinking about yourself and think about the city. If the money is misused, then complain, but this plan is great and is needed to move people around the city!

Where's Daley going to get that kind of cash.?. I'll tell you where on the backs of all the poor people of Chicago. I really don't feel sorry for them though, because they put this guy in office election after election. One of these days there going to wake up and throw the democrats out of office once and for all. But that might not happen until after the Cubs win the world series.

What a puff piece. Tribune you should be ashamed with this kind of writing. You can bet this plan will get figured out, voted on, and implemented without one opportunity for public comment. That's why the the author of this article wrote the council is likely to approve the plan this month.

I understand that chicago needs a master plan for transportation and the congestion is bad, but a river walk along a stand still river? a new upper wacker drive? straightening lake shore drive's curve-put flashing lights and PEOPLE slow down - half the time the traffic is a crawl on that curve anyway. I've been done with this major for about six years now - why is it taking people so long to GET IT. please don't re-elect him - there really are good guys/gals out there. Let's improve the streets we have, let's improve the education system, let's get serious about recycling our trash, let's put in more bike lanes, let's get more police in the streets fighting crime and gangs. there are only 400 cops for 100,000 gang members - daley think about your people not your wallet and ego.
