I nominate the 1120 Club on Lake Street in Oak Park, and the under construction Whiteco Development right behind it. Talk about uninspired architecture right in the kernel of early 20th century american residential architecture. No homage to OP or FLW, no
"post prairie style" attempts, no LEEDS certification, just giant slabs of poured concrete covered by cheap brick fascia. My son calls the slabs sidewalks. A four year old has better sensibilities about architecture than all those who ram rodded these developments into our downtown.
You should hop in your Ford Model F (built in 1906) and drive by Unity Temple (completed in 1906). Your son will get a kick out learning something about architecture and its historical relevance.

Thanks for the feedback, nothing like more coverage for Oak Park. I am very familiar with Unity Temple and been there many times, including two weddings.

Have you seen Whiteco or the 1120 Club? we have something terribly wrong in Oak Park when the best that three years of meetings can produce is whiteco. 1120 was the winner of seven proposals They were all better, but that's what the board wanted.

I don't understand the Model F jab. Modern buildings are fine. They should look nice. If you don't want prairie style, fine, just design something good or innovative. Don't slap together some box to maximize profits when it turns condo in 10 years.

The jab was uncalled for so I apologize. I was married at Unity Temple but I don't know any John M's. I am very familiar with the Whitco project. Hopefully when it is completed you will have a better opinion of it.
