The wall of buildings that lines Michigan Avenue across from Grant Park is architecture's version of prime time -- no place for the meek or mediocre.

Your review is a joke. Sadly this is the best quality project in the South Loop. To give you some prospective, why don't you walk a few blocks south and check out the cheap garbage that CMK has built on Michigan Avenue. The projects at 1720& 1640 South Michigan are not even befitting of public housing. The sterile street wall from the parking garages and poorly designed commercial space are far worse than the Columbian, which looks world class compared to these projects.

The Columbian is certainly a whole lot better than the cheap motel that stood on the site previously and the thankfully-cancelled initial plans to build only a slightly more upscale motel/hotel on that corner. Of course it's location should have produced something better, but I'll accept this new neighbor as a net positive to the hood.

The new buildings at 1720 and 1640 South Michigan are mediocre, but they are also huge improvements on what was there previously.

Corissa, you have never lived in public housing if you think these 2 buildings "are not even befitting of public housing."

I also suggest you take your own advice and walk a few blocks east to see several new buildings that disprove your crazy statement that the Columbian is the "best quality project in the South Loop."

Buildings that are behind the new "wall" on the south side of Roosevelt will always be less glamourous than their neighbors with a view. And the monthly rents and/or purchase prices will always be half or less than the "view" locations.
