Can You Still Afford to Live in Chicago?
Rahm Emanuel has discovered the perfect solution for ending poverty in Chicago: make Chicago too expensive for poor people. Payday loans.
Several years ago, Ald. Tom Tunney told me that the city was on its way to becoming Manhattanized: eventually, the wealthy people would live in the urban core, with the poor were relegated to inner-ring suburbs, such as Blue Island, Harvey and Chicago Heights. The process began in Tunneys own 44th Ward, which was a pretty sketchy neighborhood in the 1980s, before it was gentrified by gays who were scared off from New York and San Francisco by the AIDS crisis. Now, Lake View and Lincoln Park are among the wealthiest urban neighborhoods in America.
The process continued in the 2000s, when the city tore down public housing projects. We were told projects were no longer necessary, because changing racial attitudes now allow blacks to live wherever they can afford, but the demolitions resulted in the disappearance of 200,000 poor African-Americans from Chicago.
Now, Mayor 1% has released a proposal to double fines to balance the citys budget by doubling fines for almost every violation of every nuisance ordinance, from allowing weeds to grow over 10 inches tall, to failing to clear a vacant lot of debris. You can bet theyll be enforced more vigorously, too.

First of all, NBC supported the Rahm Emanuel mayoral candidacy. And while I admit, most Chicagoans are unsuspecting (ignorant) voters, they deserve the massive tax increases everyone expected with Emanuel as mayor (and with Quinn as governor).
Emanuel is one of the best liars, even better than Blagoyavich. Emanuel is backing red light cameras "for the benefit of children".
Hey Chicago, Mayor Emanuel's massive tax increases will benefit the children of Chicago (but not so much the poor children).
A Politician is not a democrat/liberal unless he is raising taxes and increasing spending. When (very rarely) a politician doesn't raise taxes and does not increase spending they are being a conservative (maybe republican).
A democrat/liberal (socialist) must tax and spend. Their agenda is to force govt on the people and to force the people to surrender their freedom from the govt.
The democrat agenda compounds itself. The more it taxes and spends, the worse everything becomes, and the more the democrat will say it must tax and spend to solve the problems it previously created. Rahm Emanuel is increasing taxes and spending because he's a democrat/liberal.
Don't let George W. Bush confuse you. Bush was a socialist too.
If Chicago raises taxes, the suburbs will do it too. So if you live in Chicago, you should stay there.

Why do yo people put up with mafia like thugs in your government? Do you have no control over the voting booths at all?
I can't give my opinion of your leadership on this page. Suffice it to say, it's a wonder anyone wants to LIVE in your area. Maybe they're too poor to move.

Just the names of your leadership make me want to gag. Especially the one that looks like the frickin vampire he is.
