The title implies that he fell because he was drunk, the article explains that the porch was faulty. Which scenario is true? I get the feeling the reporter thought 'drunk guy falling to his death' was a catchier phrase. I think that is a shameful ploy.

I agree with Michelle in Virginia. I know Michael Doyle's family here in Cincinnati. Their son was 25 years old and if I understand the report, he was attending a New Year's Eve party. It would be amazing if he hadn't had a few drinks. This tragedy was apparently caused by a faulty poch railing or gate. The reporter's mention of Michael's drinking is cheap, inappropriate, deceptive and disrespectful.

I am actually from Chicago, I don't know why it says Virginia. Everyone here knows for a fact that the city has been embarassed by the revelations in the last two years of poor building inspections. Michael is not the first person to perish in this kidn of incident. I see this as a cheap attempt to keep it out of the spotlight.

I was at a party at an apartment one floor above where this happened. These articles were the first I heard of anything being faulty with the balcony. What everyone was saying when it happened was that the guy was extremely drunk and was loudly bragging that he could successfully jump off of the balcony. I'm not sure if he was on any other drugs at the time, but it sounded like he was totally out of his mind and dillusional.

I also know Mike's family and I am sure they would appreciate some respect for their son's tragic, untimely death. Who cares how it happened? The truth is, there is a grieving family and hearsay surrounding the details are irrelevant. Show some respect.

Hey, Brian from Phoenix, I don't know who the hell you think you're talking about but it ain't the same person. The autopsy detailed no drugs whatsoever and no evidence indicating he leapt. as for the faulty railing, reference the Chicago Tribune of Jan. 2. Convenient for the by-standers to blame the victim, isn't it?

I've lived in East Lakeview for over 6 years and think that it's about time the owners of these vintage apartment buildings really check the structure of all porches, balconies, railings, etc. and make sure they meet the standards established after 2003. This sad incident needs to be investigated. I am originally from Cincinnati and know the Doyle family very well. Michael was a wonderful young man who came from a wonderful family.

I'm just saying what everyone at the party was saying they saw. They didn't say he lept on purpose, but he was pretending he was going to and was too drunk to actually keep his balance as he leaned over. That's just what I heard from the people who saw it right after it happened.
