On the news last night, the fiance of Eloisa came across as heart broken yet remained forgiving and did not rush to judgment regarding the driver.

It takes a strong person to find forgiveness in oneself. I was in awe, especially given the recent nature of events. Very inspiring person in the midst of such tragedy.

64 and driving a truck? It's one thingo to have the elderly driving their Towncars and Park Avenues through strip mall windows, now they are doing it with 80,000 pound trucks.

this is boooooolllllll.. I am so sick and tired of favoritism in this twisted sick world.. this white dude gets off with a simple ticket while other people get homicide and prison time.. bool.. this dude better get arrested and prison time!! just like Zepeda did a few weeks ago.. a Salvordorian truck driver who was involved in a truck accident and hit the bus that cut him off and people died. He did not refuse a drug/alochol test like this dude did and now he is at Stateville where this Michigan driver belongs!!!!

I don't entirely understand all the intricacies when it comes to killing people with motor vehicles. But I do understand that this man killed two people. It seems odd to me that he gets a ticket for that and injuring a lot of other people.

I am impressed with Ron Huberman & how quickly he took control of the scene. I was waiting for the L at the Grand Ave station at the time, and there was barely a delay at all. They didn't told us there was "police activity at Cermak" & therefore the S-bound trains were turning around at Lake & becoming N-bound. later I saw Huberman on camera. He's doing an awesome job in a tragic situation.

How could they not know if he was licensed to drive in Illinois? He either has a CDL or not, right?

Nice try Hubie. You must have been on a different CTA than I was. Fully 30 minutes after the event the only announcement at Lake in the subway was that trains would "not be stopping at Cermak."

Then, another 15 minutes later came the word that trains were being reversed and would not be servicing the loop subway stations at all.(Although this fact was added almost as an afterthought, following the "trains will not be stopping at Cermak" spiel again.) How about saying directly, "DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL, THERE IS NO SERVICE IN THE RED LINE SUBWAY SOUTH OF GRAND UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE"?

Of course, up to 45 minutes after the accident, no attempt was made to prevent passengers from paying their fares and heading down to the platform. This event was handled with the CTA's usual style and disgrace.

The article says he's still in police custody and charges are being considered. Please, don't make this a race issue. Those with "foreign" last names get enough mud slung their way on these forums. Don't encourage it!

You'd be surprised how screwed up the IL sec of state's office is. I've been paying for and collecting my license plate sticker every year since owning my first car and I found out after my kid got a ticket in my car that my license plate was listed as unregistered since 2002. Despite proof of registration, canceled checks, the actual stickers on the plate, I had to run through an unbelievable amount of red tape to get my plate back into the system. I had to drive with a temp plate until my plate was re-registered. No doubt drivers license records are screwed up too.

Ummm. Did you skip paragraph two where it plainly says he was later RELEASED from custody?

I know they are still gathering facts, but it would be helpful to know what the driver's explanation was. Couldn't the police at least share that? Did he fall asleep, have a medical condition...

Of more concern to me and other experts are the unsafe conditions of the CTA rail system itself: They are a series of accidents waiting to happen.

After the recent fiasco with a malfunctioning Blue Line train (a year after two derailments with numerous injuries and million-dollar lawsuits), the president of the CTA (who is the Mayor's former patronage chief) should resign. The Mayor -- like his father with the late Milton Pikarsky -- should appoint a transit expert to run the system. If a former senior FBI agent is our police chief, then an experienced expert (also from out-of-town) should run the CTA.

CTA president Ron Huberman says he works "seven days a week." But since he has no prior experience running a transportation system, he probably spends his time on his prime area of expertise: political patronage.

No wonder they haven't corrected their "lack of communication" and other problems cited months ago by the Feds in their reports on previous CTA accidents.

Exactly, and that is extremely disappointing.. it should not matter what your race is .. the law is the law.. and everyone should be treated the same.. legal or not legal!!!
