I feel so sorry for the families of those who lost there lives and those still in the care of hospital. Most everyone has lost a loved one, it hurts, but, has anyone including the mayor thought of what might have really happened here. If no drugs or alcohol was involved, do you think he may have just been driving off the ramp and thought, "I think I'll just plow into the CTA station!" Maybe. But what if something happened to the driver or the truck at that moment that was out of his control. The mayor was quoted to say, "I really extend my condolences to those who lost their life in this terrible tragedy at Chinatown." I think the hearts should go out to Don Wells too. He has to live the rest of his life (which some would think should have been taken too) with this. Not much of a life. No, I'm not a truck driver, never would want to be cause I do know what they go through. And don't know any one involved or even from anywhere near Chicago. I am just very sad at this whole mess and the story that was written. I think the driver could use some hearts too. Just my opinion.

I read this story about the truck hitting the train station in Chicago and killing two women. I am driving on the roads very often for my work and see and the absolute disregard the truckers have for the rules of the road and the other drivers. If I am going 70, the trucks are going 90 and I know that because I keep up with many of them until I know their speed. If someone is in their way they almost put their nose on the rear bumber of their car and most likely scare them to death. My practice is to stay out of their way as much as possible because it appears to me as if they are high on drugs or enraged. Several times I have called the police to no avail so I assume they do not care. In Massachusetts the police are cracking down on speeding on the highways and they are pulling over many drivers.I have never seen them pull over a truck.

He refused a urine test, not a blood test. The urine test is to detect the more immediate drugs in the system, like No-Doz. I think he just fell asleep at the wheel. A senseless tragedy, yes, but probably not due to illicit drugs or alcohol.

The question that no one asks, but should be asked is, "why did the driver veer his truck to the right when he left the off-ramp instead of driving straight ahead? Had he driven straight ahead he would have entered a CTA bus turn around loop and crashed into some metal fencing but avoiding the station entrance. By veering his truck to the right he acted as though he intended to destroy the station entrance and those around it. Why was he driving so fast when he was on an off-ramp? Many questions and very few answers. The driver killed two innocent people and injured many. He should be made to pay dearly for his reckless driving.

Maybe he was avoiding people or moving vehicles in front of the CTA bus turn around?

I have no idea, I am just trying to guess.

It was reported the trucker said the brakes failed (which is possible).

If he was asleep, then it seems odd he'd make it off of the ramp and to either of these places.

It was reported people saw him "slumped" over the steering wheel, so maybe he was asleep.

My heart goes out to the families and friends of the two women who were killed, and prayers of healing to those injured in this accident.

My prayers are with the trucker and his family as well.

Oh, without question he should be held responsible. I just hope that no one would do such a thing on purpose.

<quoted text>Hmm - the news last night said it was blood. Whatever it was, he was obviously refusing for a reason. Probably on meth like a lot of drivers are.
You may be right - I think the test he took was the "breathylizer" test, which measures only alcohol, not drugs.

Thank you to the firemen and police who did a professional job in handling this terrible situation. No matter the reason why this happened, many many lives have been changed- families of the dead, the driver and his family, those who witnessed the crash, those who were injured, firemen, police, etc. etc. and it is a sad day for all.

Well i am a lane tech student. i have known Delisia since the summer of 2007. She was a very beautiful girl and was one that really wanted to do something with her life. I remember the day i was on the bus with her and she had her college application envelopes with her. I remember telling her how proud of her i was and its just devistating that her life is over that quickly. She had things going for herself and its sad that she never got to accomplish the things that she wanted to. She is in a better place and she will Forever be a LANE TECH ANGEL! R.I.P Lee!! It seems hard to believe the driver was asleep. I take that ramp very often. It has a very sharp "S" turn before you get to Cermak. It would be IMPOSSIBLE to make it around that turn in a semi going more than 30-40 m.p.h.. Cermak is about 300 ft. past the curve. My guess would be either drugs caused the accident or being unfamilliar with the hard right at Cermak.

I live in that area and the off ramp dead end at Cermak. Like the previous poster posted there is a s curve coming off of the Dan Ryan at the off ramp. He could not have taken that turn at more than 30-35 mph. The fact that he did not hit any cars in front of him or any cars on Cermak leads me to believe that he was trying to beat the stop light.
Patient for waiting out a stop light could have save these two lives.
