Banks clan is ruling party when it comes to zoning

There are 36 comments on the Chicago Tribune story from Jan 31, 2008, titled Banks clan is ruling party when it comes to zoning. In it, Chicago Tribune reports that:

I n the overly gentrified Bucktown community on the city's North Side, neighbors call the gigantic gray stone home on Wood Street by a special name: the "French Embassy." But why not give it a proper name - "La ...

Kass and the majority of the posters here are NUTS!! I live in the 36th Ward and wouldn't live anywhere else. Why? Because Ald. Banks actually gives a damn about this ward, its residents and this city. We have the lowest crime rate in the city. We have more parks, we have forests preserves, some of the finest schools in the city, tremendous shopping, restaurants, night life and easy access to downtown via Metra or the Blue Line. My quality of life is excellent largely because of the hard work of Ald. Banks. To insinuate that Ald. Banks is dirty is a travesty and an injustice. Shame on you Kass. Why don't you do some actual reporting and talk to the guy? Deleo is the de facto governor? You are NUTS!

Since aldermen SIMPLY rubber-stamp everything the Mayor desires, there should be a one-term term limit, four years, NO PENSION, for these thieves.

Why do the residents of Chicago put up with all this corruption. I've seen it all my life, and nothing changes. The name should be changed from Chicago to Crookville, or some other more honest name.

My suggestion is to go to the community meetings and go to zoning meetings when developers and Jimmy "Pretty Boy" Banks do their presentations. Then stand up and give 'em hell. And let your alderman know he/she is being watched. Problem is, we all complain about the corruption, but then let it all slide. We all have more power than you can imagine. We just have to start using it.

There are no REGISTERED party members in Illinois. Its an open promary system when you go to vote you select whichever party's ballot you want.
So, if you are really more concerned about getting better candidates I suggest you forego voting in the McCain-Romney race and ask for a Democratic party ballot.

The guys a crook. In zoning, if you come up against "a Banks" you lose. If they wanted to build a Nuclear Waste Dump in the middle of Childrens Hospital, they will get the zoning for it.

Where is the US Attorney when you need him?

Where is the Cook County State's Attorney?

Too busy campaigning on county time?

This is not a new story. Since the Banks family is successful, does that mean that they are corrupt? This has appeared in newspapers before and has gotten scrutiny. Nobody has found any evidence of wrongdoing. It just makes a good story for those who would believe that everything is run by corruption. Out of all the zoning cases in the city, the newspapers cherry pick the cases to fit their story. Bill Banks is a hard working dedicated individual who would give you the shirt off of his back if you were in need. The same holds true for his family.

WTH I don't know who you work for, but if you don't think the City of Chicago is corrupt you are either on the payroll or one wacko Chicagoian. All you had to do is read one of the liberal newspapers in Chicago to know that there is a big problem, and those papers are trying to hide the facts.

Becuase the majority of residents fall under one of these three categories: they are too ignorant to vote, too lazy to vote or are part of the corruption.

Or, they consider that it is not as bad as it sounds, so they do not feel a need for getting involved.

Those that try to stop the corruption get kicked around. Forty four registered voters in the 32nd ward had signed affadavits tossed out by the Board of Elections Hearing officer, allowing Rep. Fritchey to run unopposed in the Feb. 5th election. That's putting the fox in the hen house.

Yes, the Chicago/Cook County Democrat Party is corrupt. But unfortunately, as John Kass explains so well, the Republican Party in Illinois is equally corrupt and both parties work together in a "combine" to benefit their friends and families at the expense of the rest of us, the foolish and self-hating taxpayer/voters who elect them. This quote from the final chapter of George Orwell's brilliant book "Animal Farm" illustrates the difference, or lack thereof, between Democrats and Republicans in Illinois: "The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which." Substitute "Democrat" for "pig" and "Republican" for "man" and there it is.
