I think this is the best thing for marian , dave was coach years ago and needed to go then. if one of your parents were not sucking up to him or donating money u didnot play ,I heard he had a list of the boys that were to play and the ones he wanted to sit on the bench.alot of us who were good players sat if not in the click. He should take Tim Swanson with him.

I don't think you quite know what you're talking about. I played for the man and was 3rd string center on the depth chart at the beginning of the year. My parents never talked to the man during the season and didn't give him any sort of bonus. Yet, by the end of the season, I was starting long snapper while also getting playing time at Center and guard. So if your son didn't get enough playing time, it's probably because he wasn't working hard enough or he just wasn't good enough, plain and simple. If you put in the effort day in and day out at practice and offseason workouts, then Coach Mattio would get you on the field one way or another. So for you to say that this great Coach played favorites is simply untrue. Keep your anger over your child's lack of playing time to yourself

Do you even know the story behind that? It was Rodney Harrison. He didn't have good enough grades to get into Ohio State so he asked Coach Mattio to change his grades so that he could go there. Mattio refused to do that which left Rodney unable to go to Ohio State. So if you think that's a bad man or a bad coach, then you're completely wrong. In my eyes, that makes an honorable man.

Did any of you actually play for Mattio? If not, then shut the hell up. If you did play for him, you know he was a great coach and that he loved the game dearly

First of all Mattio did play the favorite game and had for years, over the last 8-10 years check his record, Poor! If you want to play football you have to go to a school that cares like MT Carmel, over there on Ashland they are more into flutes!

Believe me there are a lot of Happy Alumni out there that have been waiting for this, but the issue is who ever they get they will be taking orders from him so count on more losing seasons.

Seriously? I had the opportunity to play for coach 15+ years ago. Damn been that long all ready. Anyways I didn't play much. Got in on some special teams where I did. Too small and just not as good as the guys starting. Face it! It happens. As far as his love for the game? Come on, no question. Coach is an honorable man who truly cares for his players. He worked people hard and pushed them to excel on the field, in the classroom and in fricken life. I'm thankful for the opportunity to put the work in and get what I did from the program. Coach has had plenty of success in his career. Someone said cause he had a bad season. Come on been a few right? It comes down to time and passing the torch. Time spent doing something you love at the expense and sacrifice of spending it with your wife, kids and in his case grandkids. In closing, coach Verde will run his program. His way, with his ideas. Marian is getting an accomplished coach. It's fact, already been proven. As far as Rodney goes, poor baby, you got nothing to complain about. Lastly don't hide behind screen names. Have a set and if that's what you believe sign your name to it! Coach thanks for the memories and good luck!
