why sayre school is this way

School problems....(as I see them)
Lock the doors right after school
A/C and Heat turned off at like 3:30 when tutoring is going on
No parents allowed on field trips
No parents allowed pretty much on anything (that is how they make the parents feel, not sure if that's a fact)
No doors on the boys bathroom stalls
No real programs for the younger children for sports.(have you seen our lack of ability to do fundamental things)
No buses to summer camps
No pep assemblies
No school spirit
Cheerleaders don't even go to away games
Cheerleaders don't even cheer (the older ones)
Lack of happiness in general in teaching staff
Lack of happiness in general in students
No fund raising
No rewards for reaching goals
No online grading system (everywhere else has it in our area)
They don't hire substitute teachers (not much anyway)

And if you defend many of the above things, you must have lived here your whole life and think this is the way things are supposed to be and don't expect much.

Sounds like you should move your kids somewhere else then.

Or maybe you've already been to other schools and gotten mad there too and that's why you're here!!

In response to "Sarah Howard":

-Doors are locked after school hours for the safety of students and staff. Do other businesses leave their doors unlocked after hours?
-A/C & heat have override buttons for teachers after hours, they just have to push the button. With tight state and federal funding, schools have to watch every penny or make cuts in other areas.
-Parents usually aren't asked on field trips due to travel space and amount of disruptions. The teachers handle many students every day and I feel certain they can handle them on field trips too.
-Parents are welcome to volunteer at the school any time. Not many are lined up to help, even for parties.
-The boys stalls do have doors.
-All Stars, intramurals, & 2 competitive basketball teams are offered for younger students. Little league baseball/softball & football is also available.
-Buses are sent to summer camps within a 60 mile radius. When did schools start being in charge of summer camps? When we were kids that was the parents' responsibility.
-They do have pep assemblies. The frequency is up to the cheer sponsor.
-The school tries to instill school spirit. It is hard with people on sites like this constantly bashing the school and the town in general. Parents need to work on this at home as well.
-Cheerleaders in HS do attend away games unless they are during the school day.
-The cheerleaders do cheer. Why would you gripe about them not attending away games in one sentence and then turn around and say they don't cheer anyway?!
-If a teacher isn't happy maybe they really shouldn't be in the business of teaching kids. I'm not sure what teachers you are referring to anyway.
-The students at Sayre are just as happy as anywhere else. Maybe it is just your own kids mirroring your attitude.
-No fundraising.....what a joke!! The school has so many different fundraisers it is almost embarrassing!!! The businesses and citizens are fundraiser to death!!
-students are rewarded for meeting lots of different goals. Not sure what goals you are referring to. Kids shouldn't have to be rewarded for every little thing they do. They should be taught that you do things to better yourself as a person and to make a better future for yourself. Kids are handed to much junk the way it is.
-Sayre does have an online grading system. It has been in place for 2 years now.
-Substitutes are hired when necessary. Lots of things are covered from within. Money is tight in public schools.

If you wrote this maybe you don't have a real understanding of the limitations put on public schools by the state department or the lack of funding. Maybe you just don't have a clue.

Eagle Fan, I actually have had my children in this school most of their lives, my husband was transfered here, , so yes I do have a comparison. And everything I have written is true. There may be differences in opinion, but its still truth. As for Teacher, I'm glad, you're one of the few. SHS- When I was younger, we ALWAYS took a bus to summer camps, you must have attended Sayre schools as a child. And for a fact there are NO doors on the boys bathroom stalls in elementary. My son is there, and he gets so embarrassed that he tries not to go to the bathroom all day. The fund raising comment I might have mis spoke, what I meant was that the funding for programs that could be done through fund raising could be better. And yes children should be rewarded for meeting goals.

Not sure where you are getting all your info from, but no, it isn't true. Not sure which bathrooms you are talking about, but I know the ones on the upper elementary end do have doors. Also, I'm not sure why you think you are a judge of the happiness level of the teachers. The unhappy ones are the minority by a long shot. Trust me, teachers aren't there for the money so they wouldn't stay if they were really that unhappy. What exactly are you implying by all your negative comments? Just come out and say what you are really bothered about. SHS was spot on with addressing all of your complaints. Those answers were the real truth.

I know for a fact there are doors on the bathroom stalls in the elementary boys bathroom. Please tell what stall? What grade is your son in? Is he talking about the urinals. I love Sayre elementary. My kids love it. Why don't you transfer your kids to Merritt or elk city.

Sarah is correct about the bathroom stalls. I checked myself. There are 3 stalls and only 1 has a door. And also I know there is NO online grading system for parents to monitor their children's daily grades, I called the school myself. As far as her other comments I do mostly agree. As for judging others happiness, well, how others perceive us is a big part of her theory, which makes you think, how do the students feel around them? Attitude is everything !

Which bathroom are you talking about? They put up new stalls in all bathrooms this summer except the K-2 bathrooms. Also, Sarah didn't say anything about the online grading system for parents to check, she just said online grading which Sayre does use. Check with your kids like I do mine to find out their grades. Elementary kids bring their graded papers home in a folder every week. As for attitudes, you are correct.....kids mirror their parents attitudes about school, church, and life in general!! So have a good attitude!

I didn't say STALLS!!! I said doors! You know, the things that give you privacy? And I do have a great attitude , as I'm sure you do, Ms. Howard, and everyone else! The online grading is a VERY common system/program most schools have, it's a computer age! What other online grading does Sayre have?

Seriously, do you think they purchased and installed new stalls without the doors? Wow! The stalls do have doors, the things that give you privacy. They even give school kids enough privacy to cram things in them and flood the bathrooms like they did last week at the elementary. My son came home furious that someone did that! Why eon't you say which restrooms you are talking about? You're attitude seems a little sarcastic, just saying. Sayre uses Wengage which most schools around the state use.

Seriously, you are wrong. I walked to the bathrooms on the first long hall by the 5-6th grade classes and there are not doors on 2 of the 3 stalls. And the wengage you say you use, does it allow parents to go online and view their child's grades? That is what I am asking. If its available, as you say, then the school secretary might should be told, maybe you could tell her, since you know so much!(Did you get that sarcasm )

The 5th & 6th grades are in two separate buildings and have been for 15 years!! The 4th & 5th grade boys bathroom has 3 new stalls all with doors and 2 urinals and is located on the first wing, not the long hall. Wengage can be viewed by parents if the school chooses. If you were there looking around, you could have asked the secretary about seeing your son's grades. Also, did you have a sticker on when you were doing bathroom checks in the elementary?
