The speed cameras are 90% revenue generators, 10% for public safety. The speed cameras on Georgia Avenue in Olney purport to 'catch' motorists exceeding the 30 mph speed limit on a section of four-lane divided highway which constitutes a major commuting thoroughfare. On both sides of Georgia, tiny neighborhood roads with 35 mph speeed limits are now attracting more and more motorists attempting to circumvent the Georgia Avenue highway. This is an improvement in public safety?
