'Curious' About Getting Noisy Bikers To Quiet Down

When I was a teen...many moons ago...we had duel exhaust pipes on our dropped Fords. It was cool, then! But these loud noisy bikes are a nuisance in the city! They disturb the peace and cause pain in my ears! Bad enough the police and fire engines pass by, with their sirens going, but do I have to listen to the loud sounds coming from these chilish bikers ? NO, I say put your foot down ( but not in front of them ) and demand that this pollution must stop! Take control of your city...stop the noise makers ( except on New Years Eve or Halloween or your birthday )!

So what youre saying is that back when you did it it was cool, but now its a nuisance because youre not the one doing it? And are you seriously complaining about police and fire engines too? Unless you live right next to the stations, how could you possibly hear the sirens enough for it to be a nuisance? Blame Carlo and Freddy! And Canada!

Yes, I blame Canada, because I think if it wasn't for Canada, we probably would be forgotten in this world. It was Palin who brought us to the world's attention ! Oh! What about the pickups and cars with loud mufflers. Then the ones with the loud music, with bass amplifiers that you can hear inside your house with the windows closed. Aren't all of these things against the law?

Not only can you hear the music inside your house with the windows closed, but the vibrations from the loud sounds shake the house and plates fall off my shelves. There's got to be a stop to this noise polution!

Why isn't this law enforced?

Mass general law chapter 90 section 16

No person shall operate a motor vehicle, nor shall any owner of such vehicle permit it to be operated upon any way, except fire department and fire patrol apparatus, unless such motor vehicle is equipped with a muffler to prevent excessive or unnecessary noise, which muffler is in good working order and in constant operation, and complies with such minimum standards for construction and performance as the registrar may prescribe. No person shall use a muffler cut-out or by-pass. No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any way which motor vehicle is equipped (1) with a muffler from which the baffle plates, screens or other original internal parts have been removed and not replaced; or (2) with an exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust.

MGL Ch 90 Sec16 The next line says:

No person operating a motor vehicle shall sound a bell, horn or other device, nor in any manner operate such motor vehicle so as to make a harsh, objectionable or unreasonable noise

I think those amplifiers would qualify as a device and the noise is without a doubt objectionable to a lot of people.

I understand the city just gave permission to the Pep Boys to have rally of the vehicles that ride around with those devices.

How about the car alarms? There is a neighbor that has a car and the alarm goes off at least ten times a night. Give me a break. I have a car alarm and it never goes off. Why does his?

He can get that fixed. They adjust the sensitivity on it.

My neighbor has a pickup truck... a stinking little pickup truck, yet he has a backup beeper on it, so when he backs up, all you hear is BEEP,BEEP,BEEP!.. He can't drive for sh*t, so when he tries (many times) to back into his driveway, all I hear is BEEP,BEEP,BEEP!.. I'm going out of my mind with all this BEEP,BEEP,BEEP...Is there any law against this?.. Please help me!

The family across the street allows their dogs to bark all day and all night. I'm about to kill myself. They put them in the yard and leave. I don't want to say anything since I do like these people and have been neighbors for 25+ years. What would you do? Any advice?

There are many crowded cities that are fairly quiet, Charlestown for one. Maybe you could tell us where you live so some cars, pickups and motorcycles without mufflers can drive by at night or someone can sit out front with some boom boom music.

About the dog. When a dog barks like that he is unhappy. The people may not realize the dog barks all the time. If they don't care, they are not only inconsiderte to you they are mean to the dog. What you should do depends on your relationship with the neighbor. If it was me I would call the dog officer while the dog is barking, give the address, without ever saying anything to the neighbor.

If only everyone lived their life the way YOU wanted them to. There would be a lot less problems if everyone just let everyone else live their life. It must be nice to know or at least think that you do absolutely nothing wrong and dont annoy anyone. Motorcycle can be loud. That doesn't mean they don't have a muffler. I'm sorry that other people enjoying themselves bothers you so much.
