Bill for concealed guns in bars advances in state Senate | The Columbus Dispatch

Full story: Columbus Dispatch

Should concealed weapons be allowed in bars? Despite strong objections from law enforcement, a Senate committee approved a bill yesterday that would allow Ohioans to carry concealed weapons into bars and restaurants - provided they don't drink.

Awesome! I can't wait to go down to the bar with my gun. Why didn't they think of this sooner? What better way to settle drunken disputes than with an Old West shootout right there in the saloon? As a bonus, I think I'll use the dart board for target practice. And don't tell me I can't drink, either. I've got a @#$%ing gun. NOBODY tells me what I can't do when I'm packing heat! After all, that's why the Founding Fathers gave us the Second Amendment. Not for self protection in reasonable circumstances, but for the entertainment value! After all, you can't spell "gun freedom" without FUN. Amirite? Amirite? Single ladies, get ready for the gun show!

It is about time. Since folks can carry/conceal, we've had three murders and houses being shot into. Before that, we never had these incidents. I believe this access to weapons has played a great part in these incidents that before carry/conceal, never existed. Some crazy people in charge of government, and to think we voted for them.

As a person who has a CCP , I have to say , if a bar is so bad I feel I must carry a hand gun to enter it , I just dont go . CCp's are for protection , not to make you bold enough to look for trouble . Guns in bars are going to equal killings.

The intent is to be able to carry into a restaurant like Red Lobster or Applebee's and not be in violation. It is allowed in most other states without them turning into the wild west. And if in fact the law is for only 3 percent then the accusations (same accusations trying to stop the concealed carry law in the first place that proved to be wrong) then it shouldn't be a big deal.

Agrees with Justa and Everyday Joe. Because Ohio doesn't seperate bars from restaurants that serve alcohol like Applebees, Olive Garden and the like. I have my CCP but find it annoying that just to go in and have a nice dinner with family I would not be allowed to carry. CCP is for protection like mentioned in above posts.. Not to run into a fight with guns blazing. It helps that I'm not a drinker to begin with.

Never existed? Preposterous! So there was never a gun crime before concealed carry was passed? Never a killing? I venture to say that your statement is without any factual backing. The concealed carry laws have nothing to do with access to firearms. Those laws were not modified by the passage of concealed carry, nor are they changing now. To have access to a firearm, you must still pass the NCIS check, clear and simple.

I am concealed carry and I support this bill. While I do not carry all of the time, I do feel it is my right to carry whenever, and wherever, I choose, in order to protect myself and my family in the event a criminal rears his/her ugly head and attempts to harm innocent people.

I just don't understand the mentality of those who have any issue with law-abiding, licensed, citizens carrying a firearm. Frankly, I would prefer that EVERY law-abiding person carry (presuming they know how to use it), because WE are quickly being outnumbered by the criminals. And when I say criminals, I mean those that do not follow the existing laws in the first place. Criminals prefer that we NOT be armed - so we are sitting ducks...forget it!

Let's focus on getting the criminal thugs and illegal guns off the streets and keep them out of the hands of our youth.

The police groups are just trying to stir the pot with fear. All the contigious states to Ohio allow guns where alcohol is served and NONE have reported issues.

Didn't law enforcement tell us before the ccp law passed that there would old west style shootouts everywhere? They were proven wrong in that instance, and they're wrong on this one too. The lobbying arm of law enforcement has shown once again that they are out of touch.

The libs screamed when Concealed Carry was proposed, and predicted death in the streets. Didn't happen.

Now Ohio wants to get into the 21st century with the majority of states, and they're predicting death in the bars. Won't happen now, either.

Notice that opponents to this bill do not point to ONE SINGLE STATE where passage of legislation such as this has led to bad results. That's because - their premise is faulty. It doesn't lead to these dire results.

The section about carrying in a car is not nearly as broad as the LEO brass (translated - "politicians") make it out to be. It merely tries to clear up some of the (many) inconsistencies and problems in the present law. If you don't think the present concealed carry law is vague and unclear, try answering the question - when does a concealed carrier need to notify police that he is a licensee and is carrying ? Answer: "promptly". Now what is that ?? People have already been charged because they didn't notify "promptly" enough to suit an officer.

Relax, folks. This is much ado about nothing, just like it was when concealed carry was first proposed. Just look at history. What has happened elsewhere -- and what reason do we have to believe that Ohio's experience will be any different ?

They better add elementary and high schools to the list. Those places are much more dangerous than a bar. All teachers should be packin on the way to the classroom. Are you disrespecting me? Shut your mouth!

Why do you need a gun at Applebees? Do you have delusions of grandeur that you're going to be the one to jump up and save the day when it's being robbed? Or have you watched too many Sopranos episodes that you feel you have so many enemies that you have to worry about "Sleeping with the Fishes" while in Red Robin? Or do you carry the gun to feel like a big, macho man?

Good grief people, leave the gun in the car, go enjoy a nice dinner.

I can't believe this is what we're wasting tax dollars on, our lawmakers debating over where guns & alcohol & kids & unlimited garlic bread should be mixed.

The people should be allowed to have a common sense veto.

You never know when and where a gun might be used. If you think you know than you are not smart enough to have a permit.

Really, guns in bars will lead to gun violence? Isn't this the same emotionally charged reasoning that was proven false when they allowed concealed carry in Ohio in the first place, "The streets will run red with blood!". The roads I live on still look like a dirty asphalty black to me.

To think we obey the law that doesn't permit us to carry into a restaraunt/bar but will not obey the law that says we can't drink if we do carry is ridiculous.

This country is run by spreading fear why can't we look at some facts for a change. Like all the other states that do allow carry in bars without incident, or how about some of the examples of people being killed who had a legal fire arm locked in a car but were in a restricted area when attacked.

Has anyone indicated politicians are logical? They seek instant gratification/repairs/improvem ents to governmental legislation; however, the consequences are not intellectually considered.
