There are very few things that the Patrol does that the Sheriff's and BCI can't do. We give millions upon millions of dollars to the Patrol to chase tail lights and write-up accident reports. Why not give that money to the Sheriff's Departments, they can chase tail lights and write up accident reports just as easy and then we could reduce the amount of "pretend" police officers on the state rolls. BCI has the personnel to handle high-level investigations more so than the patrol. The patrol has been pretending that it's actually a State Police for some time, but just can't quite do it, so stop wasing money on all of their fancy equipment and cars and give it to law enforcement agencies that do actual police/criminal work.

To Huberhoney,
Let me first say I don't know you or who you represent, so for me to automatically assume you are from the Sheriff's Department or any other agency that has been after the funding that is allocated to the Patrol would be wrong for me to do. Just as it is wrong for you to assume the comments stated in your posting about the Patrol. You obviously have no idea what the Patrol does. You are only going by your assumptions and what the media allows the readers to know. I am betting you have never taken the time to actually be involved with the Patrol on a professional basis. I would suggest you do that before you making the comments you've made again.
The sad thing about all of this is "MONEY, POWER, and POLITICS" has blinded what law enforcement is about. We lost our purpose to serve the citizens in order to serve ourselves. Your comment and the unfortunate happenings that have taken place with the Patrol is a example of this. WE (law enforcement agencies)ALL have a purpose. If we would go back to serving the public and stop serving ourselves just maybe TOGETHER we can put a damper on the crimes that to me has taken over the communities in this state.
I respect all law enforcment agencies from the small community police to the State Patrol because each of us makes a difference no matter what someone like yourself feels. Your comments reflect someone who is all about yourself. Bottom line we need to come together as a team. As a team we can do so much more. Take politics, money, power, and who is better out of the equation of law enforcement. I know one thing no matter what department the falling officer works for I as someone who is in law enforcement grieve. For me "WE ALL SERVE ONE PURPOSE" least I hope we do again one day.

Huber Honey is obviously a BSSA blogger. A couinty sheriff is a politician!! Look at all of the sheriff's,just in Ohio, who have either gone to jail or forced to resign for illegal activities. The only requirement, by law, for a sheriff is to operate a jail and serve court papers.

But you still haven't argued against any of my points. The patrol just dreams of becoming a State Police yet they never will because the ease of writing speeding tickets and taking accident reports is just too tempting. Sorry guys, I guess your just mad because you really, really want to be like real police officers and handle real crime, not just the fake set-up "drug stops" on the freeway that are too small for the DEA so they just call you and hand the crumbs over to the patrol you the time and place on where the dirtbag is going to be....Am I RIGHT???? Do you need millions upon millions of dollars of taxpayer money to do that?
