This issue only applies to Lake Erie - the public trust doctrine does not apply to rivers and streams. On rivers and streams, private property rights extend to the middle of the waterway, at least for the land - the water is considered "public". The "state" has never advocated a public strip for access - that is a red herring being thrown out by the Lakefront Group. Every other Great Lake State recognizes the ordinary high water mark as the boundary between private ownership and the public trust. This is simply a land grab attempt by a few private landowners against the rest of us.

Partially correct. Streams and rivers rise and fall...so if you step out, but are still in the stream bed, the landowner cannot do a damn thing about it besides getting all fussy and whining about calling the 'authorities'.
Notice I didn't mention anything about camping, starting a fire, throwing trash all over the place, or collecting fire wood up on the BANKS?!
The a-wholes arguing for exclusive rights keep comparing these illegal activities to ACCESS and the changing water levels. Try to focus, girls...
