Yes, his family needs lots of prayers BUT he should have thought about his children and his family before he decided to drink too much and get behind the wheel of a car. Let's remember this is not his first offense but I certainly hope for his family's sake, that it is his last. This is his wake-up call to change his life around. I hope he recognizes it.

The Channel 6 legal analyasis said that Phillips was released on bond because he was not considered a danger to the public. I don't what the Judge considers "a danger to the public", but I believe that hitting four children playing in their yard a "danger to the public" These kids were at home where they should feel safe and were hit by a irresponsible, drunk driver.

this guy is;nt a career criminal. You can't keep everyone in jail. Its terrible these children were hit.Mr Philips is going to be paying finacially and mentally.Check out the law before you make some comments.sex and violent repeat offenders need the states attention the most.8 yrs. without a DUI.most can't complete ASAP before they get another one.

I used to live in that neighborhood, and Valencia Road is a cut-through, used my many and at outrageous speeds. When I did my morning walks at 6a, even at that time I had to jump off the road occasionally because of speeders that were oblivious to everything. Night-times were worse, because you had teens and tired adults. The spot where this happened does not surprise me. I'm just surprised it hasn't happend more often, drunk driver or not. I offer my prayers for the family and hope the children recover soon.

Thank you for speaking out about his children!!! Keith Phillips is NOT a bad person, he would NEVER intentionally harm anyone, especially children.

THANK YOU!! 8 years without a dui, not even so much as a traffic ticket! People make mistakes, should we lock them all up & throw away the key? Where will the line be drawn? I agree it is terrible these kids were hit, BUT everyone should be looking at the bigger picture, everyone is alive & not seriously hurt, This situation could have been a lot worse for everyone involved. I agree the state should be focusing their attention on the violent & sex repeat offenders.

The judge should be ashamed of himself... they should be using him as an example of the consequences of drinking and driving. Let it have been me and i'd be sitting in jail with no sympathy or bond! And obviously him running down four innocent people was not enough....maybe now he can go out and really do some damage.

I am not saying that Keith Phillps is a bad person. I don't know him, and don't really care if he spends every waking moment trying to save the world. Anyone who drinks and drives is a danger to society. I don't care if it is your first offense or 100th offense. He is obvioubly dangers, he hit children playing in their front yard. Should Phillps spend years in jail no, but he should sit their and pull some time for his actions. He is very lucky someone was not killed.

This is a tragedy and the continued results of Virginia's "tough on drunk driving" farce. In particular, there is undeniable case proof in Chesterfiled County that shows how the "tough on drunk driving" PR campaign is a complete farce and the Commonwealth's Attorney's office under Billy Davenport is utterly and completely ineffective in this area.
Case in point...I personally know of an individual who is currently driving EVERY DAY on a revoked license, and has not held a license in many, many years. This individual is awaiting trial on his 3rd recent DUI, a fellony, in which the cases have been continued for well over a year, now on it's 10th (yes, TENTH) continuance. And these aren't this individual's only 3, he has not held a license in many years due to prior DUI's.(Oh yes, & this person also has been seen driving with an infant in the vehicle.)
I for one am sick & tired of knowing there are people such as this breaking the law on a daily basis while the Commonwealth's Attorneys and judges continue to let them slide, directly resulting in placing the public at continued risk. All the while, we continue to see the PR campaign of Virginia being tough on drunk drivers. What a joke.
