"The 31-year-old Hansen was shot after the officers responded to reports that he was beating his father. A grand jury ruled the shooting justifiable, and county officials have denied allegations since the lawsuits."

First they call the police because the guy is out of control, and he attacks a responding cops who defends themselves.

The Grand Jury has already ruled the shooting was justifiable.

They are not after justice, the family just wants money. That is why they have 2 suits, one against the police officers and now one against the county.

I am sorry for their loss, but don't think they deserve any money over it.

Maybe they should have just let the mentally ill guy kill his father. It would be nice if the government were able to countersue for legal expenses in cases like this.

Yes, I am sorry the man was killed but the man was mentally ill and the family asked for the police to step in. The family got exactly what they asked for in this case. By calling the police, the family took the risk that the guy would be killed. Perhaps they should have called the nut house instead.

They had plenty of other options to pursue, besides deadly force.....that's the basis of the lawsuit.

And the justifiable homicide is questionable. If he didn't beat the father to death by the time the police arrived, then i'm almost certain that he wouldn't have beaten the officer to death. I'm sure the commonwealth attorney presented a very light case to the grand jury...

What are the chances of Taz presenting Glen Allen or Sammy up for a slaughter against Crazy Indian? That's about what the CA presenting the cops up amounts to.

What are the chances of you putting down your crack pipe long enough to sneak out of your asylum, trot down to that rusted bridge leading into Dopewell and jump off??

" They had plenty of other options to pursue, besides deadly force.....that's the basis of the lawsuit. "

Plenty?? You have absolutely no idea what was going on at the time of the shoot. You have no idea why the nut was flipping out to start with and if he was escalating in his rage as the police responded.

" I'm sure the commonwealth attorney presented a very light case to the grand jury... "

Your sure?? Well if Slurpee Summit is sure of it then thats final. BAAAHAA!! You are not sure who your Daddy is, your not sure who your momma is, your not sure where you hid your crack pipe, and most of all you have no idea how to get the herpie blisters off your ears?!?!?!

Now trot down to that bridge and jump you idiot!

Some Va. cops love to punch and shoot first then ask questions later, many, many more of them LIE--then the other scumbags back them up---Shame on them!!!

Never fails, police do their thankless jobs and everyone wants to sit in judgement of them. The dead jerkwad wasn't worth a drop of sweat off the police' brow. I say great job CPD and way to shoot.
By the way Sammy, if the idiot jumps into the appomattox river isn't that pollution? I mean, these seems to be enough crap in that river to start with.

Right on, CPD!! Nice shooting - unfortunate that it was necessary, but the rules of any engagement are set by the aggressor. The goal of every officer is to go home in one piece at the end of his/her shift. If a dirtbag escalates to potentially lethal force, the police have no choice but to respond in kind.

What "other options" were there? What if the officers broke out their batons and gave him a 'Rodney King' beating? Then there would be a trial for that, along with accusations of excessive force.

If the police hurt a bad guy, they are lambasted as tyrants or thugs. If they don't do what is necessary to stop a bad guy, society will label them as ineffective, wimpy or as cowards. They can't win.

Hats off to every hard-working, honest cop out there. The majority of us support you 100 percent!

Rodney King? What did they beat him for?

Police really don't have the authority nor are they deemed capable of making decisions; every police department damn near relieves them of their own stupidity. Even if they are sued, it won't come out of their pocket, it will be the residents of Chesterfield's dollar.

Sure, all of you cop ball licking faggots support the law; so did the Village People.

This is the result of three DUI's, six driving on suspended and a lifetime of living in denial. It's not the police idiot its you. Can we all agree that your dirty underwear is a result of you wearing them? You pulling them down behind the dumpster is your issue also. You are such a disaster, find that bridge!

I think the situation these 2 cops walked into was a no win proposition. They were likely to be judged wrong no matter how it ended up.
Fact is,if a 300 lb man had a male cop down and was beating the crap out of him the end result was probably going to be the same. The police receive some extensive training on many subjects but can't be mental health experts. The guy was violent from the word go,posed an imminent threat to the life of the officer. If he had me down and was beating the stuffings out of me I would have done the same thing and so would ALL of you that are so critical of them and what they did.
I'm sorry for the family.I'm sure if they had known how this would turn out they would have never called. It's just not right to try and get rich off of this situation.I'm sorry to say,but the son brought it upon himself.

Thanks to Bob Mcdonnell more situation like this will happening. He has cut the funding for mental institutions and group homes.

The police need to have extensive training in regards to mental health issues. District 19 doesn't show up until the patient is at the hospital. Police have to get them there.

On top of that magistrates do not green warrant mental cases anymore.

I know firsthand how many police abuse the healthcare system. They have falsely arrested people and told lies to the mental health social workers to get them placed in psych wards. Its a win, win situation--the cops don't have to do all of that paperwork and the county and hospital make MONEY!!!!

You're no cop. Cops get paid to take crap. And by the way, Monday Night Football has been around for atleast 20 plus years.

Police aren't quarterbacking the game of life, they are more like schoolyard tattle tales. No authority to do anything but hand someone over to a commonwealth's attorney. Crime is not holding America hostage....the idea that someone just might want to skip the wonderful years of having pride in earning a life is American's biggest fear. And it's like that because that is the history of the world. Big and bad enough to take it, take it.

Funny that everything that led to prosperity for the original settlers became illegal, after they were the potential next victim.

The Va State Troopers and the HCPD are full of CRAP!!!!
The HCFD are hypocrits--If anyone harms my children I will call that lady at the Bus Stop to help me.

Why did the drunk guy driving the car get 8 years and the drunk fireman driving the boat get 2 1/2 year?

Sounds dirty to me! Is justice for sale in the USA?

That is because Officer Jerkbug lied and abused his power as well as the health care system and any decent laws of right/wrong and JUSTICE.

I repeat, If someone does a crime, arrest them. Why would cops and firemen engage in sick, immature games designed to emotionally abuse and scare someone as well as to publicly humiliate and degrade them. I can't believe how many jerks are out there that do not give a crap about kids!!!

When you stop caring about children, you might as well pack it in.

Justice isn't just for sale, it is pandered through our elected officials. A president may only rule for 8 years but his reign lasts as long as that supposedly independent 3rd leg of our system stands.

Everyone screams at the top of their lungs about how intelligent they are but the reality is We Are No More In Control Than the A Child That Has Yet To Be Born!

Mr. Anarchy,

You are highly intelligent and quite fascinating!! I hope you have a job where you use those skills to help people.

Not everyone screams about how intelligent they are--some people are more in touch with reality--they scream because they do not like the game of life and choose not to play!

The system stinks!!!!
