If you had followed the link, that I provided, you would have seen that he was convicted under a plea bargain deal, because he didn't want the death penalty. He will serve LIFE w/o Parole, under the terms.

The family is happy he did the plea, because that meant the young woman, who was kidnapped, did not have to testify in court...

End of story, in a nutshell.
