They don't seem to feel it necessary to announce that these statistics are those of citizens currently taking advantage of unemployment benefits. It takes into no account those who were denied benefits, or are living with no income whatsoever. I'm sure those numbers are much higher.

If I'm incorrect, and it would be awesome if I am, please correct me.

I think the definition is the number of people that are unemployed but actively seeking work and does not include the underemployed who are still looking for a job in their chosen field or the unemployed who have given up looking. I think I remember seeing that if those groups are included, the rate is in the ballpark of 16%. So you're right, the published rate is optimistic.

All correct...Undocumented workers are not being calculated either. Lets buy a gallon of diesel fuel for $2.9999. Who do they think that they are fooling. Unemployment 6.99999% statewide, only 9.999999999% nationwide. What a joke. Unemployment is in the 16% to 18% realistically. It will climb to 20% to 22% this winter. 9.9 and holding nationwide...hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

And once again, we can look to bulack odumdum to come to our rescue, tele-prompters blazing, to tell us health care usa will solve our problems. I really hope that all the people that voted for this farce are last in line at the unemployment office. I wouldn't trust this charleton in an outhouse with a muzzle on. <<<<<<<En d of rant.

Indeed, so let's be real: These numbers reflect the percentage of people who are living on taxpayers' money right now, not what actual unemployment rate is.

Wax your right, the number of people who are currently collecting unemployment thats it.

It does NOT include:
People who are still out of work and have fallen off unemployment because their benefits have run out.

People who have taken a less than job just to keep their head above water.

People who gave up looking.

People who are here illegal.

People who refuse to collect unemployment.

People who are fired as they can not collect unemployment.

People who took those census jobs that will be unemployed very soon.

The article states " Experts say jobless numbers are going up because recent college graduates are now part of the job market. "

Truth is the students are not included as they can not collect unemployment until they first have a job that they lost do to layoff.

I am only guessing but unemployment is closer to 20 percent.

I have looking for work since I loss my job in December of 2007 and I had not found one and I am a 56 year old woman and I believe the older you are there is a less chance of finding one. The bad thing is that I ran out of my tier 3 in January 2010 and now I have to relay on my daughter but she can only due but so much because she a single mother with two daughter ansd. I feel like I am taking something away from them. Being unemployed had afected me physically and mentally when you go looking and do not hear anything is very depessing.

I acn relate to that. My mother was laid off from Qimonda (Infineon) about a year and a half ago and has yet to find employment. It's not for lack of trying, either. She is always searching for work, but is continuously overlooked. It has played affected her self esteem and damaged her emotionally & physically. But, she is still trying, that's all you can do. Fortunately, I'm able to help her, and they are managing to keep their heads above water with my father's income. She had a dream of retiring at 52, less than 5 years, and that dream went completely out the window.

Keep your head up and don't give up. It will all work out for you in the end, I know it will.

Being the eternal optimist, I kinda put myself in that situation by QUITTING my last job right before the bottom fellout thinking I would take a breather then find something else. I took a part time hourly job as an interm thing to stay busy and am still looking, but I now have (good & low cost)insurance coverage and something coming in. At least I'm in better shape than I was when I sat at a desk all day. Not sure when I'll get something, but this experience has made me sure I don't want to be (and can't be) doing manual labor the rest of my life. What is encouraging is that I keep reading about an impending labor shortage as the baby boomers start retiring and that at least some companies are thinking about why thye should also be looking at more mature employees. Don't know if or when, but because I'm still an optimist, I have hope.

Try to get one to admit the horrible mistake they made and see if you can find one. I'm really sad to see the American electorate so duped by this phony. Makes me smile to see his highness stepping on his own uhhhhhh neck and floundering like he is.

Guess we know all about the Anti-Christ now.

Perhaps the day will come when they admit that their American Idol has no talent.
