This is a selective tax, you drive like an idiot and get in a accident then you just selected to pay it. The prez is putting a 10% tanning tax on people that fake-n-bake but I won't have to pay that because I don't tan. Do you know why the uniforms for Chesterfield County are dark green? I'm going out on a limb and thinking that you don't know.

I don't know why some people are so riled up about this. They must be the ones speeding, DUI, texting while driving, etc, since those folks are the only ones who will have to pay. I think it's a great plan. Only the lawbreaking drivers will pay, and thats good enough for 'em.As someone else posted, don't want to pay more, then don't break the laws.

va_tazdad,

The only problem I see is the fact that reckless driving is a very blanket term, which could be interpreted as a simple mistake such as swerving to miss wildlife to serious crimes such as DUI. There is a lot of discretion on the shoulders of the officer, and quite hard to prove otherwise. Reckless by definition would mean "without regard for the safety of others" But it seems to cover more than that in Virginia... If "reckless driving" was better defined I wouldn't have a problem with it, its just thrown around as a charge a lot more than its actually done if you ask me...

No matter how much money our local goverment takes in for whatever reason they always will be in the hole these elected people don't want to balance a budget.

That's a great idea for those that actually disregard the law. Unfortunately, in Chesterfield, someone has to be blamed and get a summons. There appears to be no such thing as an "accident". If a deer runs out, a new driver overcorrects -- its all "reckless driving". A real accidental accident is just that -- an accident but that just doesn't seem to happen in Chesterfield-- nor does appying common sense to each individual situation seem to be an option. Now, run a red light, get behind the wheel drunk, put your mascara on while driving -- then by all means bring the hammer down.
