Was the driver of the semi an illegal? I know they drive and do not have the training that others have.

What was the semi doing on the shoulder?

Look at the name of the driver, does it look like a illegal name?

I can't understand why people post things like this. It's unproductive, without taste, and offensive to the deceased. Your comment assumes that she was struck because she was using her cellphone. Read the story. Paige was on the shoulder of the road, out of traffic. Don't be an idiot.

I know Paige. She's an incredibly intelligent girl with more common sense and courage than the average person. It takes quite a person to commit to biking across the country. She studied engineering at one of the best universities in the country and was a stellar athlete and deeply caring, warm person. She will be missed greatly.

YOU would think that the driver of the semi would have seen someone stopped on the shoulder.

You're kidding me, right? That's why the shoulder is there - to provide a safe area out of the way of moving traffic.

If The Stupid Fox station had any (good) reporters,(never will) they would have read the story in the AP that this woman was on the shoulder at the top of a hill and the Tractor Trailer was a wide load that was moving more to the right side of the road so oncoming traffic would not hit the machine.

Texting and biking should be illegal.

If you realize how big a combine is, even if they are in the middle of the road, they sometimes can take up the whole road. The driver probably didn't see her until it was too late to try to slow down. I am deeply sorry for her family and friends for their loss.

Drivers not paying attention or thinking they are the only ones with the right, by law, to use the road are dangerous and irritating. YOU sir should stay off the road for everyone's safety. Yes, when I am in my car I may from time to time get angry at other slow DRIVERS but not scooters, or bicyclists, or runners, etc. The roads are not just for cars, get used to it and pay attention when driving or stay home.

You would think someone could see a big truck coming at them and get out of the way.

This was a freak accident- no one should be blamed. A life was lost and the other will live with it the rest of his life. Where has our compassion gone?

The driver of the truck over corrected itself and by the time he knew what happened he struck Paige. My mom works for this girls father who is a doctor. She pulled off to the shoulder to check her messages. She did the responsible thing. This is just a horrible accident. My prayers go out to his wonderful family.

ick dudo---where I'm at, bikes don't even make up 2% of the road traffic, so it's ridiculous for them to be on the road!!!--do you not agree, that travelling well under the speed limit is dangerous??roads were OBVIOUSLY meant/built for cars, not small, slow moving, HARD to see bikes...yes, they are not as easy to see--OBVIOUSLY--as cars...

Its narrow minded people like you that create alot of these problems......The roads of this great country are for all of us to
enjoy...As a cyclist I have been close to being hit several times
by people on cell phones or reading while they drive....remember its not all about YOU>>>>>> >>>>

This poor girl has lost her life because of a freak accident and you people have the nerve to sit here and criticize her? She didn't do anything wrong, she was being responsible and pulled over to check her phone, it's not like she was being a moron and riding her bike in the middle of the road and texting someone. She was not stupid. I went to high school with paige and feel horrible that you all say these things about such a sweet and ambitious person. RIP Paige, you will be missed.

I feel very sorry for her family! Maybe with the investigation, we will find out if she was distracted at/from the side of the road while checking messages the same as someone that is driving and doing the same. You would be distracted as to what's going on around you the same as any time you are 'checking' messages anywhere! Just sad all the way around!
