I was born in 1973 and remember a few trips to Moore's lake when I was around 5-8 years old. I had a few great times there! I remember the back part of the lake having basketball hoops. I was not allowed to go back there because supposedly there were huge snapping turtles that would bite little girls toes right off! If that was the truth I don't know. It may have been a story created to keep an adventerous little girl from wandering to the back area. I do remeber being quite dissapointed the summer the fun ended due to the lake "making people sick". In the early 90s I went fishing on the lake and don't remeber there being anything but an overgrown lake. What a shame for the lake closing!

My family had dinner at Sibley's BBQ in Chester Friday night, 1/16. I noticed a picture on the wall over by the register and went over to investigate. There it was... a picture of Moore's Lake. Seeing that picture brought back a flood of fond memories. It was just as I had remembered it in my head. If anyone else has a picture they would like to share, please email to me at l.deshields@comcast.net or at lynne.deshields@hcahealthcare. com

Donna,

In the 1950s, I went quite often with my family to Moore's Lake and have exceedingly fond memories of the place. I've been trying to get photos of it, for I only recall movies that we took (old 8mm film). Unfortunately, the films are not to be found anywhere. If you could also send me some scans of the lake, I would certainly appreciate it.

We moved away from Virginia in the mid-1960s, and I've been writing my autobiography and all the thrills I had growing up. Moore's Lake is included.

I remember somthing about that but that lake was north of Moores and on the west of Jeff Davis hiway. I remember it had a HUGE slide. Someone did die in the late 60's from spinal meningitis and it was traced back to that lake

We spent many happy weekends at both Chester Lake and Moore's lake when I was a kid in the 1960s.

Hello, guys! I wasn't born until the late 70s, so I don't know about Moore's Lake, but it sounds like my dad Scott Fritchley and my uncle Terry Fritchley know a thing or two about it! I'll have to tell them I found this forum! I was looking for old racing photos of my dad and I stumbled upon your thread. I'll have to ask them about this pinto business...

Have a great day! Shoot me an e-mail if you want! I can see if my dad has any pictures of this lake.

A good way to get memorial items from moore's lake would be with a metal detector...The property is marked no tresspassing...If anyone knows the owners and they would allow me to metal detect there, I would be glad to turn over whatever I find to you! My email is megustaguitar@gmail.com

A metal detector will not pick up the thousands of memories. Some good, some bad and some sad. I'm sure like me thousands of people have memories that will last their entire lifetime.

I would really love to see these pictures and any others that any of the readers might have of Moore's Lake or Lake Chester. I can almost still hear Travelin Man, Blue Moon, Tossin and Turnin, Soldier Boy, Johnny Angel blaring on the juke box in the pavillion.

I spent quite a bit of time at MOORES Lake in the 70s and early 80s as a teenager. I too have been trying to find any pictures of the lake from this time period but am having no luck.. I would not mind seeing the ones from the 50s or 60s though.

Lynne, I want thank you for that link to the Moore's Lake photo. I spent many a summer day there. I actually chipped my front tooth on the "hump slide". Those were the days.

Their was another small lake in the area called Crystal Lake? I think it was on Route 36 between Petersburg and Fort Lee?

It was only 50 cents to swim all day, They would stamp your hand when you left the swimming area. I also remember the basketball hoop at the back

The high dive was so scary to me.
