I fear hat some of the EMS workers are abusing their powers by targeting certain vehicles and then following them and harassing them for sport. Who the hell thought of that one. That is stupid and dangerous. What is the point of it??

I think people that are in the helping profession should stick to helping people and not hurting them.

Hey did you know that when I worked at a Nursing home in Ashland the nurses called the EMTs from Amelia-"Butterfinger Idiots" Sorry fellas but it is true. They found out that ya"ll dropped too many little old people and then did not report it. Shame, Shame.

So RAA misled the public when they said Overstreet was a dispatcher, knowing he worked in the field? Great, a guy accused of being into child porn is helping children in the back of Richmond ambulances, and the department is hiding the truth.

And Chesterfield Fire misled the public when they said Overstreet was "exceptional" even though he had been disciplined for abandoning patients? Were any of them kids? Great, another department is hiding the truth about his character.

Why hide the facts? Why say he was great when he wasn't? What are they trying to hide? Did RAA or CFEMS know he was into child porn? Sure, RAA says it can't happen, but if they misled us once, why wouldn't they mislead us twice? And did it happen in Chesterfield?

How can this be, some locales where he worked said he was a great EMS employee.
I guess the vetting process never happpened.
To let you know the details of this, he failed to obtain a documented refusal, he didn't abandon anyone. Glad you can make an assessment based on a generic list. The voilations he were reported for were also reported by a disgruntled former member trying to make a power play and be seen by the state to further his own agenda.

Seems like Mr. Overstreet has a history of unprofessional behavior as an EMT. This person should not be allowed to serve in a position of public trust.
Seems like. Is it true he abandoned a black woman and her children at the scene of an accident? I heard the police were pissed when they found out he left the whole family by the side of the road.

Wow...let's see, you're wrong in the fact that the parent HAS to ride up front, by our rules. How about you do some homework before actually posting something that you obviously don't know about. It's at the PROVIDER'S discretion who rides in the back of the ambulance, and I know that most(including me), if not all, of the paramedics I know in the city and abroad have the parents ride in the back to both calm the pt. and parent and to also KEEP STUPID COMMENTS LIKE THAT from being said. Now, how about when someone else in the medical field has something like this happen...say, a doctor? Does that mean you suddenly start wondering if you should go to a DOCTOR because there was a doctor somewhere that did something like this? Of course not...you take it with a grain of salt that there are some f***ed up individuals in the world that happen to have REGULAR jobs.
Oh, and that whole clip about "ashamed to have called yourself an employee of Richmond"...get a life man. You have bad people in every arena of the business, it's not city specific. I'm PROUD to serve the city of Richmond...the residents are the people I answer to, NOT the HR section of my company, which is the branch that HIRES PEOPLE. True, I can understand why this might make people hesitate before calling 911...in Chesterfield, where he functioned as a paramedic. In Richmond, he was a dispatcher. Let's not give in to hysteria here and remember that the vast majority of us got into the business to HELP people...don't let your perception of us get marred by the actions of one individual.
Having run with two volunteer squads I want to than you for your comments.

You are right. Back in the early-1980s I did some good drugs, partied-hard with EMTs who were on duty. Right in the ambulance and also inside the squad house - IN CHESTERFIELD. I won't name the rescue squad though. Those guys (and 1 gal) stayed ripped on the job!! Totally ripped. I'm talking drugs not an occassional beer. I need to add that they were still pretty good at what they did regardless, just not squeaky-clean at all.

It takes all kind. It may be a medic, cop or fireman. Even some noted lawyers and clery are prone to do this stuff.

How about the coaches in the school system or the persons in charge of the food area in the schools?

They are all around.

The sad fact is that there IS a sleeze element in most volunteer and paid rescue squads and ambulance services. Many of these organizations share from a common pool of people, as in the paid Richmond Ambulance worker of Wednesday night is the same person as the volunteer rescue worker in Chesterfield on Saturday night. Most of these people are basic good people, however, there is an element that are wanabe cops and firemen who either could not hack the standards or can not afford a pay cut to do the work they really want to do. I worked very close to a rescue squad for over 20 years and saw, in person, much of the behind the scenes darker things that went on, involving junior members, porn, broken marriages and very open (in the eyes of the people close) affairs between marrried members and or a married and an unmarried member of the crew. The really sad part of this is that most if not all of the members of one of these organizations know what is going on, however, a very ingrained code of silence within the organization will usually allow these negative things to go on, until something goes very wrong and something goes public and then we have incidents like the one in question.

RMA says: "He's on time, he's confident in his work and we're looking forward to him getting this resolved as soon as possible," said Richmond Ambulance Authority, CEO Chip Decker."

Getting this resolved???? Come on RMA! He didn't get a traffic ticket, he was collecting child porn for god's sake. WTF

Just another great example of the caliber of individual that you will get with Bensley Bermuda VRS. I hope when I dial 911 I get a Fire Dept. ambulance.

Gotta B - not necessarily. Just responding to the article that indicated he was with BBVRS -

As a paramedic with the Bensley-Bermuda Volunteer Rescue Squad in Chester, President Gary Frame tells CBS 6, Jesse Overstreet's performance and demeanor has been "exceptional" during his five plus years on the job.

To my knowledge, the vollies at #6 don't man an ambulance

Sir, it would be part of the profile for this man to go about his daily work schedule in a very exceptional way, he was most likely very maticlous about his work ethic and demeanor. Most people who do these types of things are that way to the general public so as not to bring any unwanted attention to that darker side of their life. I have always thought that people who had control and authority over others such as police, health care, teachers and the seemingly professional youth leaders should have mandated pshological exams at least every other year. These people of authority, like it or not, are and should be held up to a higher standard that the average mechanic or carpenter.
