Thanks for all the warnings. I was going to the auction this Saturday 10/15/11 to buy a Miata. I did not like the $500 dollar deposit. Now that I know this place is a scam I'm not going. Again thanks to all of you who took the time to let the rest of us know.
I didn't understand why I had to have a $500 "deposit" just to be able to bid, either- I know you get it back if you don't buy anything, but I had to let them "hold" my debit card til after the sale..I didn't like that idea, not "knowing" who all "could" do something with it or if it gets "lost" or something...

No, if I have Cash in hand, I would recommend Craigslist First..At least you don't have to pay a $500 "deposit", or "fees" to do paperwork, I could do my self, and you will likely "deal" with the cars "owner"...I thought the "staff" at the auction all seemed shadier than an oak tree, and thier "pleasant, professional" personalities were just typical(fake),for a car salesman, that will tell you Anything to get a sale- "Courteous"? Would that be pushing it just a teeny bit, or does your "husband" work there??

the 500 is not a fee just a deposit so if you dont buy anything you do get it back. Its not a fee.

My brother recently worked for these crooks as a mechanic! They should really be shut down! This man is out to make money. He buys his cars from other auctions for as little as $50, turns around and has his mechanics "soup" the cars up just so they can sell! My brother even stated that he seen the guy put something in the engine to seal it up temporaily! There is a name for it but I honestly don't remember. My brother worked 2 weeks and quit, not only is the guy doing his buyers wrong, his is doing his employee's wrong! Lets just say he doesn't pay what he says he will. Also my brother tried cashing his first weeks check (what little he did get)and so many places told my brother they would not cash the check because the owner has bounced so many checks!! Don't ever buy from this guy or work for this guy!
there is no way there getting them for 50.00 the fees alone are around 200.00 to buy to 600

I said earlier you get the "deposit" back, if you don't "buy" anything( I didn't like them holding my debit card, and don't carry around $500 cash)..The Problem I have,is WHY do I have to put it up in the FIRST place? I could go to Burns Chevrolet-Cadillac, and test drive an $80 thousand dollar Escalade, and not pay ANY "deposit"...SO Why do I have to put up money to "bid"???

Because they are going to sell you a piece of shit and they want to make sure you pay!!!!!!!! After you win the bid and go take a look at the car you would just leave if they didn't have the 500 deposit

@ RainbowWarrior... I have not bought anything from this place but just wanted to say that at any auction there is normally a buyer fee- If its a wholesale auction there is a buyer and seller fee. I have never seen anyone not have this. Normally all bidders deposits are just that (a deposit). It's normally 100% refundable or applied to the sell price if something is bought. It's really like good faith money to keep people from running up bids that have no intention of purchasing a car (which is to the buyers not sellers advantage)- As far as doc fee - This is on most dealerships as well to cover the paperwork and overhead for the person that has to be paid to keep the DMV happy and make sure the title is clear, clean and in good order- I was in the mortgage business for years and they charge doc prep fees, attorneys charge it, and I guess car dealerships do as well. Lastly, the title/transfer fee... Take that up with DMV- I just had to go through this and in SC this ran me I think about 40.00- It is what it is... Everyone gets paid (like when you buy a home) along with the seller- I understand yor frustration but what was the NADA retail value of the car you got? Did you get it for less even with the fees? If so you are in the good because the "value" doesn't include the cost to buy a car in SC (lets not forget the tax as well)--- oops... Sorry I didn't write what you would like but fees are in every transaction we make- Some are disclosed when we pay- some are built in the actual price- but in auctions, the cost is usually below retail so the fees are not built in...
As far as the mechanical issues... That is really scary and something should be done to protect the consumer if deceptive practices like this is going on. The DMV in Columbia, SC should let you know how to file a complaint with any auto company--- If they license them, they can revoke that piece of paper as well... Good luck and thanks for the info.- Good stuff to know!

Its at every Public Auction- Look up Summerville in Charleston - The deposit is to keep people from coming in and running up bids without any intention of buying a car (just to play a game)- This acutally helps the buyer (not seller)- Tell me... What advantage is it to any auction house to hold a 100% refundable deposit for 2 hours? Really none but to protect the other buyers from fake bidders. Does this help understand why? At Burnes are you bidding with other consumers? At wholesale auctions they have bidder badges and to get a bidder badge- they have show they can pay for a car (have a floor plan, have referances, the bank is checked, etc)--- If they bid on a car to run it up... They may end up with that final bid and the fees that go with it- Then the auction house has access to pay for car if needed= regardless if the buyer does it or not... Again, I hope this helps but I've learned a little over the last year about this stuff and I find it interesting-
Overall it sounds like this is not a good place to buy a car but of the "issues" are just normal business pracitices for auction houses... Have a good one!

I recently bought a car from Saied and not knowing a lot about cars I took his word that it was "a good car." I want prepared for the transmission to go out and for it to overheat and shut off. He is a liar and probably on drugs. Not to mention his breath smells like cigarette butts and trash juice.
