As any war does, World War II affected two generations of victims: the dead or the survivors and the children of those survivors because, after a war, no one is ever the same and is haunted by ghosts until death.

Strength comes from the inner war we all overcome. What doesn't kill us can only make us stronger.

I am trying hard to erase from my mind my mother’s stories of horror and humiliation. I have no children, so her stories will die. I will not write them down from the fear of getting mad.

Or maybe if you told them to somebody in real life or write them down in some sort of memoir you would feel better? I'm no talking about writing on forums btw.

That's true. But at some point shouldn't people move on with their lives?

Yea, idiots would not forget and ask from russians forgiveness, when russians stoped occupying Germany 20 years ago, but their new masters Americans are still there. If Hitler just would not go on Russia, they would serve him to this day. Yes russians are very brutal and ready to die in fight, but if anyone would try to live between East and West. I've lived with muslims, if you give them ground, they would pluck you and tease you forewer. I fought them from my childhood, but what is left to do. Then in Russia millions germans and finno-ugor people deselved, like my wife, who is 1/4 german. And we get it, that germans were so naive and believing, that in depression time of thirties Hitler screwed them up, like Bush did with americans after sepember 11th. Ron Reagan commentator said, that germans were eager to appear in US captivity, then in russian hands. But if vermach would rape America, as they did to Russia, then it would be not only innocent 100 000 drezdens dead in hell of fire, but there would be 3-4 atomic bombs on Germany. Now Poland asking Russia to appologize?!!, when in poland dirt 600 000 russian soldiers laid dead for Poland freedom. If they say, that we would better off if we would be under Hitler occupation, than in comminism. But who knows what would be better. Only one thing is known, that complette capitalism is pulling America down almost like socialism did. And playing stupid political games to Poland with America against Russia could end up in another horrible war. Russia, Germany, Franse, Italy and few other western countries are so far much better in understanding of things, they were against Iraq war, and history showed, that they were right. America did not have horror of war on their land, that is why people there freaking out with Cheney to attack and kill everyone, who desagree. Lots of americans atre good people, but they keep silence.

A lot of Americans kept silent because their families were not being shot to pieces in their own homes.

The Germans were ass-raped for a few short months - they didn't like it.

In Poland there is not a single family who does not have a horror story to tell.

People have a varied level of understanding. Some continue pretend it did not happen, and they were not involved. That is what they call "getting on with their lives".

Europeans, generally, have a concept of life or history being like a river - there is a different experience at each point along the way and the psyche's memory is somewhat erased by each new experience. Besides, a river can cleanse itself through drainage.
The Asian and Indian concepts of life are that life is like a lake or pond, where each point on the lake is visible from any other point thereon and any damage or pollution to that ecosystem is not fully repairable because it has already affected, possibly irreversibly, the whole of the lake. Another concept is that of injecting poison into a coconut when it's still immature. The poison will remain and affect the whole nut.
Poles are at the crossroads of Europe and espouse some Asian philosophies and beliefs. Besides, the study of psychiatry shows that a human is affected for a lifetime by traumatic, especially prolonged and repeated traumatic experiences. That is why 70 years will need to be multiplied twice or thrice over for the remembering generations to die off before the nation's psyche is renewed. Remember, the half-life of a collective memory is, at best, the middle of the third generation. So we have a long way to go before we "GET OVER IT."

Daily Horoscope for January 8

Sagittarius

You'll feel friendly with everyone you meet today, and you might even be lucky financially. Money should be coming in, but going out rather fast as well... Astral influences will keep you on your toes, and will probably make you flirtatious, but they could also make you moody. This makes it tricky for close relationships to run on an even keel. The truth is, perhaps you don't want too much closeness at the moment. Your partner probably knows that you're often like this, by now, anyway.
