3 Even President Barack Obama acknowledges that the economy is creating jobs too slowly under his stewardship. Yet Obama can now boast that more jobs have been created during his first term than during the 8 years of his predecessor George W. Bush. Job growth has now ticked up to about 150,000 per month. If that pace continues, the economy will end up creating more jobs under Obama in four and a half years than it created under Bush in a full 8 years. 3 What does this tell us? A few things. First, Clinton and Obama outpace Bush and Bush in creating new jobs, even though both Democratic administrations inherited weaker economies. Second, the 2.17 million jobs overall in 2012 really was the best year since 2005, and surpass seven of the eight years of Bush/Cheney. While 2012 obviously wasn't robust for job creation, it managed to surpass three two of the eight years Clinton/Gore was in office, too. And third, while the private sector has done better than the overall economy under Obama, under his three most recent predecessors, the opposite was true. Yes, it's further proof that if President Obama is a radical socialist, he's really bad at implementing the tenets of his leftist ideology. I think he's doing a super job at creating new jobs and I appreciate the information and will pass it on. |

The costs of the 2003-2010 Iraq War are often contested, as academics and critics have unearthed many hidden costs not represented in official estimates. The most recent major report on these costs come from Brown University in the form of the Costs of War project,[1] which said the total for wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan is at least $3.2-4 trillion.[2] The report disavowed previous estimates of the Iraq War's cost as being under $1 trillion, saying the Department of Defense's direct spending on Iraq totaled at least $757.8 billion, but also highlighting the complementary costs at home, such as interest paid on the funds borrowed to finance the wars and a potential nearly $1 trillion in extra spending to care for veterans returning from combat through 2050.[3] Those figures are dramatically higher than typical estimates published just prior to the start of the Iraq War, many of which were based on a shorter term of involvement. For example, in a March 16, 2003 Meet the Press interview of Vice President Dick Cheney, held less than a week before the Iraq War began, host Tim Russert reported that "every analysis said this war itself would cost about $80 billion, recovery of Baghdad, perhaps of Iraq, about $10 billion per year. We should expect as American citizens that this would cost at least $100 billion for a two-year involvement. I think Cheney underestimated the total cost of the wars by a few trillion dollars....???? In March 2007, Brig. Gen. Stephen Mundt said that 130 helicopters had been lost in both Iraq and Afghanistan, about a third to hostile fire, and he was concerned that they were not being replaced fast enough.[1] A more recent report published in "Aircraft Survivability" in Summer 2010 a total of 375 U.S. helicopters have been lost in Iraq and Afghanistan till 2009. 70 U.S. helicopters have been downed by hostile fire and the other 305 are classified as non-hostile and non-combat events.[2][3] Unmanned aircraft of any type are not included in the list below. At least 283 personnel have been killed in helicopter crashes since the invasion, and 19 have died in fixed-wing crashes. Since the beginning of the invasion helicopters were the target of attacks with "aerial improvised explosive devices", home-made bombs.[4] In early 2007 the US Army announced that the Iraqi resistance has a strategy for attacking US helicopters.[5] This was confirmed by documents captured from Iraqi insurgents.[6][7] A deputy commanding general in Iraq of the U.S. military said that the average month in 2006 and 2007 saw about 17 attacks against helicopters.[8] Efforts to prevent more deaths included more training for helicopter pilots. They continue to improve tactics and aircraft defenses to reduce losses. In fall 2007, the military deployed the more advanced V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft. According to the military, this aircraft flies much higher and faster than helicopters and has six to seven times more survivability than the CH-46.[9] The cost of replacing this equipment we be in the trillions.
