I recently purchased 4 houses in the Mooresboro "area". I am currently renting them out, and the tenants (after 4 months) all seem to be nice, decent folks.
My wife wants to move there, but after reading some of the articles about the direction the county is going in, I'm not so sure.
We are from up north, have successful businesses up here, and would probably start one down there as well. We are not old enough to retire (yet), so we'd start a business (employing around 6 people) for something to do.
What are some of the pros and cons of the area? We live in a very rural area now, and we the meth problem is a national one, not unique to your area.
Is the area pro-business? Do the locals, given the chance, support new businesses? I have property in the mountains outside of Clintwood, Va. as well, and find the folks there to be very friendly and welcoming; we just don't like having to drive 30 miles down the mountain to go shopping.
My wife is a teacher, but mostly volunteers to help the younger kids with reading. I'm an uneducated (school wise) business guy that has spend most of my life working in the trenches.
Any comments on the pros and cons of living/working in your area?
Many thanks, and God Bless.

What sort of business would you be bringing to this area?
As far as your wife possibly getting a teaching position, know this: I know a young woman with a 4 year degree in teaching that spent a few years checking groceries at the local FOOD LION. She finally got a position but she wasted years doing a job anyone straight out of high school could do.
It's hard to predict how the community here would react to your business without first knowing exactly what it is that you do.
As far as the 6 possible jobs you could bring to the table... just know that you will have 600 people trying to fill those positions and I will be one of them.

I have several businesses, but the one I would moving to the area would be, w/out going into specifics, light manufacturing.
My wife is not so concerned about teaching as she is volunteering. We are Catholic, and see that there are many churches in the area that she might be able to start some sort of free tutoring ministry with.
We just had an opening for a receptionist up here, and had more than 800 applicants. It's tough all over, and we realize that.
