Re Alfred E Newmann..... Everyone but the mayor and the fire chief . No seriously, a couple of these guys I thought were friends. I was rather disappointed but not at all surprised, not in this town. Maybe the last straw for our police dept. but at least we have a top of the line fire dept, that we don't need with a new sign out front we don't need ran by a city hall we don't need occupied by city councilmen we don't need whose boss is a mayor we don't need who runs a town we wish we could leave if we could afford it. Just absolve the damn town, file bankruptcy against electricities and privatize all of it. Let the county run the police, have a volunteer fire dept, get GDS to haul off our trash. Enough is enough!!!

Oct 17, 2012 wsoc tv news reported names of:
Frankie Dellinger, a Cherryville Police Department reserve officer;
Wesley Golden, a Gaston County Sheriff's Office reserve deputy;
Mark Hoyle, a Cherryville resident,
Casey Crawford and David Mauney, both Cherryville police officers,
and John Hendricks, a Cherryville resident.
*note: the same report mentioned Frankie Dellinger as Dillinger, so not sure which name is correct for his last name.

Thank you info, and my apologies Mr. Newman, a really old friend is mixed up in this and I kinda over-done it on my first posting. It was heartbreaking to see his face over and over on the news. But still, with the FBI in on this, if indeed they are guilty, throw away the key. This can't hurt this town, it can only go up from here. One of the newly elected councilman told me that the town was going to be cleaned up. But this doesn't have anything to do with the deal at city hall, I hope. This is bad, worst news since Carolina Freight closed. But the police dept. might just be done now. I hope the Gaston Co. Police do as good a job as they say they will.

OK, so now the Fire Chief is the city manager and the police Chief.

Chief "Woody" and Captain Allred have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. Does that mean fired? We will see. I guess the thinking is that the two top positions in the police department, if they knew nothing about this, that they should have known.

I think this could well put the last nail in the coffin for Cherryville Police Department.

Consider this: Video clearly shows FBI agents searching Cherryville undercover police cars. These cars belong to Chief Woody Burgess and Captain Mike Allred of the Cherryville Police department. Video also shows Captain Allred giving his weapon and holster to a FBI agent who then takes it to the FBI crime scene investigation truck. Also video shows FBI agents bagging something from Captain Allreds vehicle. Later in the day the acting city manager announces that he has suspended Chief Woody Burgess and Captain Allred pending the OUTCOME of the ongoing FBI investigation.

Yes, I agree with anyone who says that this is not over. Cherryville Mayor Austell indicated in an interview today that he fully expects more arrests from the investigation.

The final nail has been sledge hammered into the coffin of Cherryville PD. I also suggest that the Gaston county district attorney may look into the cases handled by Captain Allred and Chief Woody Burgess. He may have more than just the 83 cases to review that he indicated today.

I love Cherryville and most people here are friendly small town folks that would give you the shirt off their backs. But there is an undercurrent of good old boys that are probably quaking in their boots tonight I suspect.

I am praying for all those involved. It is certainly sad for our town. I agree with you, however, Alfred.....I figure there will be more information and arrests to come. I hope we can just get it over with and begin the healing process. That will definitely take some time.

Tip of the iceberg folks. Everything from stealing city money and property, trafficking drugs and taking bribes to look the other way to stealing and dealing in whole truck loads of stolen generators, electronics and equipment.

There will be some big names around town in the papers in the coming months... This is a small town...they all got their share of all this dirty money. This fire is going to sweep under the rug.
