For a town that prides itself for the support of sports, especially baseball,Cherryville shows little care for the girls of the area that play softball for cherryville..Dixie Softball and other teams that use the fields at Ballard Play, are forced to practice and play their sport on fields that are poorly maintained, and are unsafe for the player, and fans..The fields lack in many ways..Batters are forced to stand in holes that are 4 to 6 inches lower than the playing field and home plate.Picthers mounds are made up of several holes and it is a guess that the girls are pitching at the least somewhere around the required distance..The players have to tread lightly in the dugouts for fear of distrubing the wasp nest in the dugouts.I'm sure that the boys do not play theirs games on such poorly kept fields...As for the bathrooms, well if and i do mean if,they are clean, thats most likely do to them be stopped up and can't be used..Come on now,Cherryville surely is standing there with their hands out to collect the money for the use of the fields, atleast they can surely live up to maintaining the fields that the players play on ,to the standards that they maintain for the boys..The girls have the right to the same level of playing fields,as the males and now not just when it suits the income that is to be made..

I agree 100% Dixie has "donated" several thousand dollars in the last year to improve dugouts and field condition. Several parents and volunteers have also donated endless hours of their own time. The city repeatedly refuses any kind of reimbursement and/ or maintenance of their own property simply because they know there are people that care enough to do it for them. Quit being so biased to the boys cherryville and show the girls some support! 3 girls teams in the STATE tournament this year, 1 of which went on to the world series, imagine the potential these girls would have if we had good equipment and decent facilities.

Cherryville is a town that shows intolerance to anything that is different. The words "we have always done it that way" are a way of life here. Change is difficult with such an entrenched good ole boy network.

Keep at em and eventually with patience and love change will happen. Just do not expect 100% approval of anything that smacks of change, positive or negative.

A glaring example of this is the deplorable shape of our down town area. Cherryville never did get out of the idea that Carolina Freight would take care of everyone.

Agree that downtown is a total dump. They should tear it down and start over. Even a goat pasture would be better than all the empty, falling down building and dirty streets.
