The insurance and healthcare industries know how to play the game. In fact, the healthcare industry spent $243 million in 2013 to lobby for Obamacare. Why? Because now they can get double that back from Taxpayers bailout money. Told the socialist freeloading morons there is no free ride.

Ben. They are not dropping wooly worms, they are dropping possums. You prove my point with your claim that the possum drop has fixed the economy. I kind of figured you would think that way. NC law allows 18 year olds to vote. Many high school students are already 18 and many vote . I wouldn't expect to find you reading . Republikans even hate lens crafters because they make glasses and that can lead to reading.
<quoted text>
I figured you would think that way so here's some knowledge for ya, "In Brasstown, North Carolina an annual "hillbilly" event at Clay's Corner convenience store is organized by proprietors Clay and Judy Logan.[1] At midnight on New Year's Eve, instead of dropping an inanimate object, a plexiglass pyramid containing a live possum was lowered from the roof of the store.[2] The animal is lowered carefully to prevent the occurrence of injury or trauma. The opossum is not actually "dropped;" as with most events of its kind, it is lowered with great care, in the same manner as a time ball.[3]

Federal and state animal permits are obtained in advance and the opossum is released afterwards.[4] The festivities include a contest with local men dressed as women to compete for the title "Miss Possom Queen" as well as bluegrass music, snacks and beverages, and souvenir merchandise.[4]

Clay Logan received international attention in 2004 after the Possum Drop was featured in a New York Times article." "n Tallapoosa, Georgia Kate Gardener organizes a biennial event held on odd years.[7][8] The “Bell Tower Bash” is held in Buchanan, Georgia on even years.

Spencer the possum is lowered in a ball wrapped with Christmas lights from the top of the American Hometown Realty Building (Opossum can only be seen once dropped and only upon close inspection). A living animal is not lowered but it remains uncertain whether Spencer is a stuffed toy opossum or died of natural causes several years ago and was stuffed by local taxidermist Bud Jones. Spencer's name is a tribute to Ralph L. Spencer.[9]

The majority of residents of the city of Tallapoosa consider the event to be "redneck" and are against using the possum moniker to promote "Possum Snout", a nickname considered demeaning to the history of Tallapoosa (which means "Golden Water" or "Gold In Water" in the language of the Native American Muscogee)" "Peta, along with "five veterinarians with more than 125 years of combined experience in wildlife medicine and leading wildlife rehabilitators and educators who collectively have cared for well over 14,000 opossums" are all in agreement that "capturing a wild opossum, holding the animal for several days or weeks, and suspending the animal in a Plexiglas box high in the air as fireworks are set off, muskets are fired, crowds of people scream, and loud music is played" is a terrifying experience for such "shy" animals." "According to wildlife experts, the "dropped" opossums "likely died shortly after their release, probably from predation or 'capture myopathy,' a cascading series of catastrophic physical reactions to stress and trauma."[16]

Dr. Brian King, a wildlife veterinarian with more than twenty years of experience in treating opossums, concludes that it's "likely these animals met a horrible death"[16] after their release following the Opossum Drop. Furthermore, he goes on to say that "there is no justification for inflicting such cruelty on any animal for the sake of two hours of public amusement."[16] Also, he says that by issuing a permit for such an activity, North Carolina would be "tantamount to becoming complicit in animal abuse."[16]

Another wildlife expert in opposition The Possum Drop is Dr. Kenneth Jones, the country's foremost opossum researcher and veterinarian. He says this "disgusting" practice "tormenting an opossum." I apologize, I didn't know that opossums were so fragile and I will rail about the abuse as loudly as you do about the new taxes Obamacare is imposing on all of us, deal??

Ben: What is ridiculous is the republican legislature wasting their valuable time, at our expense, on such stupidity as possum dropping when they should have been working to improve the economy. Equally moronic is your claim that the NC republikan possum dropping law and activity in Tallapoosa, Georgia has fixed the NC economy.
You miss the point entirely. I care not about possum dropping. The animal cruelty people would go crazy if they had witnessed how we used to trap, kill, skin, tack the skins inside out on little boards for drying and sell the hides of possums for 10 cents each. They were used to make fur coats in those days.. Today, I wouldn't harm a possum for $500 because I don't need the money, and I thank God for the bounty with which I have been blessed. But what really aggravates me is the mindless stupidity of our republican legislature.

Definitely not a smart move. Just like republikans, they are trading short term gains for long term losses.
Democrats suppressing contrary thoughts, republikans suppressing contrary facts and attacking large groups of voters.. The general public focused on social ideology while big money buys legislators and legislation to financially rob the middle class. Uneducated uninformed voters, corrupt politicians and big money controlling the government by playing both ends against the middle.. The insurance companies and medical providers making the US government their subsidiary. A bleak picture but somehow I am optimistic, maybe like the kid madly shoveling out stables because he thinks with all that horse shit, there has to be a pony in there somewhere...

THE FDA already made us their bitches. You may not know, but Australian and American scientists have REVERSED the ageing process in mice.If the POWERS THAT BE don't crush this story, cause it to disappear (so only billionaires and the political elite can have it), this could cause fantastic chaos, as researchers say that it is entirely possible for HUMANS to benefit from ageing reversal...has to do with signals in the mitochondria .....

I wonder if legislators were sitting around bored and said "Let's legislate on opossum dropping". No, I think not, now the question is WHY did they do that and WHO demanded they pass a law? Now if I were a betting man, guess who I think the majority of the "opposition" were and what party they belong to? Care to take a guess? William "Bill" Maher, Jr He serves on the board of PETA and is an advisory board member of Project Reason". Go figure. MY point is legislators don't do this crap by themselves. Someone has to push the issue.

I agree with this with the caveat that someone has to push the issue with payments to the legislators.

Gus Deeds didn't just 'get hurt'. He stabbed his father and then killed himself. A tragedy in any family where this happens. I congratulate Murphy in addressing the tragedy into a potential law. Obviously, the root of the gun problem is how to get guns out of the hands of the mentally ill as well as curtail other acts of violence through a proper treatment system. I hope they will continue to find solutions where this can become a reality. I think they are moving in a much needed direction.

Before he was NC governor, Pat McCrory worked for the law firm of Moore and Van Allen.
Chase Burns, illegal internet gambling tycoon, "gave" over $500,000 dollars to NC politicians, mostly through Moore & Van Allen
Pinocchio Pat received a large portion of that illegal internet gambling money but claims to have no knowledge of that.
Curiously , NC has no law which would prevent politicians from receiving money from illegal enterprise.
