The man appears to have a history of crime and if a jury finds him guilty I hope they throw the book at him. Cherryville is my town and something like that happening here makes me uncomfortable about the safety of my family.
I admit that I did not want the Cherryville police department to continue after our scandals. But, now that our elected officials have decided to keep it I wish to say that their capture of this man was quick and efficient. I applaud them and hope that they keep up the excellent work.
But a word of caution. This man apparently felt he could act this way even though his location was very close to the police station. His brazenness speaks volumes for the contempt he felt for our police. It will require a lot of hard work and luck for our police department to again have the trust of most of its citizenry.
Our new chief has his work laid out before him and it will be a tough road. I wish him good luck.
