They had to let them go. With gas prices, they are only allowed to drive so many miles a shift. Continuing to chase would put them over the miles limit.
I also know that they are cutting back to one car per shift that will hold three officers at a time for the same reason.

They had to let him go because he left City limits. It had nothing to do with the miles and/or gas prices. Furthermore, they are not cutting back to one car per shift. They are in the process of hiring more officers so that they can protect YOU!

yeah but IPD should be able to go outside of city limits(they can if they want to). At least give pursuit outside city limits for a little while. See at least if SO has anyone close, I know last night SO had a few officers close, that could of picked up the chase. But the pursuit was terminated before SO officers were even notified. Sounded like SO,and PD SHOULD have ALL the departments frequencies in everybody's cars. instead of relaying all the time via dispatch 1-2 minute delays can be 2-3 miles traveled..

From What I heard on the scanner the right call was made to call off the pursuit. Would you all be saying the same thing if the officer continued the pursuit and the person fleeing caused an accident and killed someone or maybe your family. Many departments throught the naton have a Zero Pursuit policy for just the reason alone. Puruit are very dangerous, and should be dicontinued when the initial reason for a stop was a traffic violation only. They did obation the tag number on the vehicle and I am sure they will find ount who was driving. I would have given this same repsonse if it was a sheriff deputy or another police agency involved and made the same desicion. Sometime you have to make a tough call, you cannot catch them all and they are their to protect and serve.
